The US Department of Justice has released a substantial trove of documents relating to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, with one particular email shedding new light on a controversial social gathering from December 2010.
Guest List Reveals High-Profile Names
An email from publicist Peggy Siegal, published as part of the so-called "Epstein Files", details the guest list for what was described as a "very last-minute casual dinner" held at Epstein's New York residence. The attendees included Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, filmmaker Woody Allen and his wife Soon-Yi Previn, and television journalist Katie Couric, alongside the host himself, Jeffrey Epstein.
Contradiction with Previous Statements
Significantly, the email indicates that Andrew was staying at Epstein's home during this period, which was characterised as "one of the largest single dwellings in New York". This detail appears to directly contradict Andrew's 2019 assertion that he had travelled to New York specifically to terminate his friendship with Epstein and had no subsequent contact with the disgraced financier thereafter.
The released correspondence also shows that Ms Siegal extended an invitation to journalist George Stephanopoulos, suggesting he would have "private time with Andrew" owing to the royal's stay at the property. Records confirm that Stephanopoulos declined this invitation.
Massive Document Release
This revelation forms part of a much larger disclosure by the US Department of Justice, which published more than three million documents on Friday relating to Epstein, the convicted paedophile who died in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The department concurrently stated that its review found no criminal conduct by former President Donald Trump in connection with the Epstein case.
The emergence of this 2010 dinner guest list raises further questions about the nature and extent of associations between Epstein and various high-profile individuals, adding another layer to the ongoing public and legal scrutiny surrounding the financier's network.
