Senator Lindsey Graham has addressed public scrutiny over his visit to Disney World during a partial government shutdown, clarifying that a bubble wand seen in his possession was purchased for a friend's daughter, not for himself.
Graham's Disney Trip Amid Shutdown
The South Carolina Republican traveled to the theme park during a two-week congressional recess while lawmakers remained deadlocked over funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). His vacation drew widespread ridicule as the government shutdown persisted, with critics accusing him of prioritizing personal leisure over legislative duties.
Other lawmakers, including Representative Robert Garcia, were also spotted on holiday trips during the recess, further fueling public backlash. The funding dispute continues, with the Office of Management and Budget warning that DHS will exhaust funds to pay employees by May.
Graham's Response and Future Plans
Graham defended his trip, stating he had bought the bubble wand as a gift. He announced that during the next congressional recess, he plans to campaign in South Carolina rather than return to Disney World. The senator also urged former President Donald Trump to 'Make Iran Great Again,' though the remark was not directly linked to the shutdown controversy.
The impasse over DHS funding remains unresolved, leaving the agency's financial future uncertain as the May deadline approaches.
