Jodie Sweetin has opened up about her relationship with former Full House co-stars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, weeks after making rare comments about conservative castmate Candace Cameron Bure.
The 44-year-old actress, who recently revealed her residual pay for the series, talked candidly about where she stands with the 39-year-old founders of high fashion label The Row, who were seen on a rare outing last week.
Sweetin portrayed Stephanie Tanner on the iconic sitcom, while Mary-Kate and Ashley took turns playing Michelle Tanner from 1987 to 1995. Though the trio had a sibling relationship off-camera, things changed after the show's run, as Sweetin revealed on an episode of the McBride Rewind podcast.
She said: 'I think after Full House and growing up and everything, they've had an extremely different trajectory than any of the rest of us. People are like, "Oh, well, do you guys not talk? Is it bad?" No, they were 8 years old when the show finished. We weren't as close as we were. I didn't see them all the time.'
Sweetin explained that like many relationships, on or off screen, they drifted apart naturally. She continued: 'We would see each other at our family events and dinners and it wasn't like there was bad blood between any of us. But they moved to New York and then got married and were a fashion empire and moved into that world. It was, like, we sort of drifted apart.'
Mary-Kate and Ashley have quietly left acting, focusing on the fashion industry where they founded The Row in 2005. Sweetin added: 'I also have to consider they were 8 when the show finished, so if you knew somebody for the first eight years of your life and then you sort of drifted away, how many people do you still talk to? It's not like it's a bad thing. They don't have as much recollection as maybe I do or anybody else.'
During their time on the show, they were very close. Sweetin recalled: 'I loved them. I was really close to Ashley and Mary-Kate from the beginning. I would go to their room and hang out and play with them. I loved being kind of the older one, caretaker like, "Let's be friends." Ashley, Mary-Kate and I, they would come spend the night at my house. They'd come to my cabin on the weekends with my parents and I. We'd go horseback riding. We would go to Disneyland. I mean, I've got pictures of us playing dress up at my house, like, they're like 3 I'm like 6. Just kid stuff and I loved it.'
Sweetin also recently revealed that she is not very close to her other sitcom sibling Candace Cameron Bure, as the two 'sit on very opposite sides of things' when it comes to politics. In March, she appeared on the podcast Only Child with Bob the Drag Queen, where she said of Cameron Bure, who played her character's older sister D.J. Tanner: 'Candace does her thing.' Sweetin, who appeared with Cameron Bure on the original series and the Netflix reboot Fuller House, hinted at a personality clash on issues. 'You know, we sit on very opposite sides of things, and I'm just kind of a loud, outspoken b**** about a lot of things, and that's not going to stop me. And if that ain't you, that ain't you.'
Both stars have been clear about their politics: Sweetin has demonstrated at anti-ICE rallies and an abortion rights march, while Cameron Bure posted a video titled 'How to Vote Like Jesus' and has addressed being a conservative in Hollywood.
