The son of former Australian prime minister Paul Keating has issued a firm denial of any connection to the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. This follows the release of new documents by the United States Department of Justice, which reference him in a 2011 email exchange.
Email Exchange Links Keating Name to Epstein
The newly unsealed court records show an email chain from May 2011 involving Epstein and his close associate, the former Barclays Bank CEO Jes Staley. In the correspondence, Epstein told Staley, "The son of the former prime minister will take you for fun, I will send you his details."
Hours later, Patrick Keating's sister, Katherine Keating, forwarded her brother's UBS email address to Epstein. A US government court exhibit suggested the two messages were connected. Patrick Keating was a banker at Swiss firm UBS at the time.
Patrick Keating's Strong Denial
When contacted by the Daily Mail about the email, Patrick Keating strongly refuted any involvement. "I have never had any dealings with Jeffrey Epstein or the other person mentioned, Jes Staley," he stated. "I have never met or communicated with either Epstein or Staley, either directly or indirectly."
The Daily Mail has not suggested Patrick Keating engaged in or had knowledge of any improper conduct by Epstein or his associates. Patrick, the only son of the former Labor PM, is a veteran international banker whose career has included roles at Barclays, Citi, UBS, and Savills Commercial. He is now a partner at London-based advisory firm Leander Capital Partners.
Katherine Keating's Documented Links
It is well-documented that his sister, Katherine Keating, was an acquaintance of Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell. She was famously filmed leaving Epstein's New York townhouse in December 2010, with Prince Andrew seen waving goodbye.
The latest document release also includes other emails showing Epstein, in February 2011, asked then-Prince Andrew to invite Katherine to a dinner with filmmaker Woody Allen. Katherine confirmed she attended a "large social event" at Andrew's invitation shortly after moving to New York.
In a separate October 2011 email, Katherine wrote to Epstein and others promoting her father's book, signing off with "Katherine X." Epstein's reply simply asked, "Are you here?" before requesting her phone number.
The documents were released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed into law in November 2025, which compelled the US Department of Justice to release all unclassified records within 30 days. Epstein was a convicted paedophile at the time of the 2011 emails, having served a prison sentence in 2008.
