King Charles Faces Mounting Pressure Over Prince Andrew's Epstein Links
King Charles III has been urged to publicly disclose his knowledge regarding Prince Andrew's connections with the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and to ensure his brother testifies before United States authorities. This demand comes from prominent Democrat congressmen who argue that the Royal Family has lacked transparency in addressing the scandal.
US Politicians Call for Royal Accountability
In a recent interview with the BBC, Democrat congressman Ro Khanna stated that the monarchy has "not been transparent" about the situation. He emphasised that stripping Andrew of his royal titles is insufficient, describing this period as the "most vulnerable" the British monarchy has ever been. Khanna, who co-sponsored legislation compelling the US Justice Department to release Epstein-related documents last year, insists the Royal Family must reveal what they knew and outline concrete actions they plan to take.
Similarly, Democrat congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez called on King Charles to "direct his brother" to answer questions, suggesting Andrew should appear before a congressional oversight committee. She also advocated for a formal inquiry to be conducted within England to thoroughly investigate the allegations.
Buckingham Palace's Stance and Police Involvement
King Charles has previously announced that Buckingham Palace is prepared to cooperate fully should Thames Valley Police initiate an inquiry into Andrew's links with Epstein. The King expressed his "profound concern" over the allegations against his brother, a sentiment echoed in an official palace statement. The statement reiterated that while specific claims must be addressed by Andrew himself, the palace stands ready to support any police investigation and remains sympathetic to the victims of abuse.
Thames Valley Police confirmed on Monday that they are currently assessing reports, including allegations that Andrew shared confidential documents from a 2010 trade tour of south-east Asia with Epstein. Further claims under scrutiny involve a woman allegedly sent by Epstein to the UK for a sexual encounter with Andrew, and an incident where Andrew and Epstein reportedly solicited an exotic dancer for a threesome at Epstein's Florida residence.
Public Reactions and Royal Family Responses
The scandal has provoked significant public outcry, with King Charles being heckled on multiple occasions. During a walkabout in Dedham, Essex, a heckler questioned whether the King had pressured police to investigate Andrew. Another incident occurred at Clitheroe train station in Lancashire, where a man demanded to know how long Charles had been aware of Andrew's association with Epstein. On both occasions, the King did not visibly react, though crowds expressed disapproval towards the hecklers.
Other members of the Royal Family have also voiced their concerns. The Duke of Edinburgh highlighted the importance of remembering the victims in the wake of the document release. Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales issued a statement through Kensington Palace, confirming they are "deeply concerned" by the ongoing revelations and that their thoughts remain with the victims.
Andrew's Current Status and Denials
Prince Andrew, who was stripped of his royal titles by King Charles last year, continues to deny any wrongdoing. He has not publicly commented on the latest disclosures from the Epstein files. Initially expected to vacate Royal Lodge in early 2026, Andrew is now residing on the King's privately owned Sandringham Estate.
The release of millions of pages of documents by the US Justice Department has intensified scrutiny, with Sky Roberts, brother of accuser Virginia Giuffre, also calling for Andrew to testify before Congress. As pressure mounts from both sides of the Atlantic, the monarchy faces one of its most challenging periods, balancing familial loyalty with demands for accountability and justice.
