Man Detained at Trump Golf Course After Dinner Attack

A man was taken into custody by Secret Service agents at Donald Trump's Florida golf course on Saturday, just a week after the White House Correspondents' Dinner was targeted by a gunman.

Incident at Trump National Doral

Footage posted on social media showed the man being detained at a security checkpoint at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami. He was arrested after allegedly defying orders and 'getting physical' with a Secret Service agent, according to the New York Post. The man was later taken to a correctional center in Miami and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting without violence.

President Trump was not at the course at the time. Trump National Doral is currently hosting the Cadillac Championship, a PGA Tour event featuring golfers such as Scottie Scheffler.

Secret Service Response

The Secret Service suggested the arrest would not stop Trump from visiting his course, where a gold statue of the president was recently unveiled. A Secret Service Miami spokesperson told The Post: 'At no point did this situation impact the established security posture for any upcoming visits to Trump Doral National Golf Club by Secret Service protectees.'

Connection to White House Correspondents' Dinner

The incident comes a week after Cole Thomas Allen, 31, allegedly attempted to storm the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington. Trump and many top officials were among the guests. Footage showed the alleged gunman sprinting at agents and trying to burst through security, prompting the evacuation of the president and First Lady Melania Trump.

Allen faces major federal charges, including the attempted assassination of President Trump, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. The Justice Department accused Allen of attempting to attack the dinner and target Trump and administration officials by running through a Secret Service checkpoint with a shotgun, handgun, and knives.

Allen allegedly exchanged gunfire with Secret Service, and an agent was shot in the chest but saved by a ballistic vest, escaping with minor injuries. He also faces charges of transportation of a firearm in interstate commerce with intent to commit a felony and using a firearm during a crime of violence, which carries a minimum of 10 years and possible life imprisonment if the weapon was discharged.

Statue at Trump Doral

A 15-foot-tall statue at Trump Doral depicts the president throwing his fist into the air, reminiscent of his gesture following the July 2024 assassination attempt on his life in Pennsylvania.
