Freshly disclosed documents have unveiled a series of explicit email exchanges between former Labour minister Peter Mandelson and the convicted paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. This revelation starkly contradicts Mandelson's previous assertions that he was deliberately 'kept separate' from Epstein's notorious 'sexual side'.
A Pattern of Sexual Innuendo and Brazen Remarks
The correspondence, spanning several years, is riddled with sexual innuendo, brazen references to sex workers, and crude jokes. This directly challenges Mandelson's public stance of ignorance regarding Epstein's criminal activities and predatory behaviour.
Explicit Jokes and Suggestive Banter
In one particularly telling exchange from April 2009, following an incident where a climate change protester threw green slime on Mandelson, Epstein joked via email: 'Goo on your face again.' Later that year, when Epstein bizarrely suggested Mandelson marry Princess Anne to become prime minister, Mandelson replied he would 'get straight on it'. Epstein's response was laden with sexual implication: 'You getting straight is too horrible to imagine ... I was referring to your appendage.'
Even while Epstein was serving a sentence for soliciting underage girls for prostitution in July 2009, the pair continued their suggestive banter. Epstein advised Mandelson to make 'bold moves', to which Mandelson quipped: 'In what areas..? Policy, social or sexual?'
Celebrations and Political Commentary
Upon Epstein's release from jail two days later, Mandelson asked how they should celebrate. Epstein replied, '(those are the names of two strippers).' When Mandelson inquired how 'freedom' felt, Epstein said: 'She feels fresh, firm, and creamy.'
During the run-up to the 2010 General Election, their emails turned to political figures with a suggestive tone. After a Cabinet reshuffle, Epstein asked if Mandelson's sigh was a reaction to 'the number of new hotties' in government. On election day itself, Mandelson emailed Epstein: 'We are praying for a hung parliament. Alternatively, a well hung young man.'
Contradictions and Awareness
The documents suggest Mandelson was far more aware of Epstein's character than previously admitted. In July 2010, an email from Mandelson appears to reference Epstein's preference for much younger women: 'When we say 'wife',' he wrote, 'we don't mean 20 years old and Russian.' Epstein simply replied: 'Yes dear.'
Global Exchanges and Personal Life
Their correspondence continued across continents. While in Jodhpur, India, Mandelson complained a cow stepped on his foot. Epstein replied with an apparent sexual insinuation: 'What were you trying to do to it?' During a work visit to China, where Mandelson claimed locals accorded him 'almost god-like status', Epstein suggested he might 'take someone home', hinting at infidelity with his long-term partner, Reinaldo Avila da Silva.
In 2013, Mandelson tried to convince Epstein to join him in St. Petersburg, describing it as a 'rave'. When Epstein retorted, 'You mean it's for gays,' Mandelson shot back: 'Er no, tastey models and dancing [sic].'
A Stark Contrast to Public Statements
This extensive cache of sexually charged chatter stands in stark opposition to an interview Mandelson gave the BBC in January 2024. In that interview, he claimed he 'wasn't attuned' to Epstein's sex life and was 'kept separate from what he was doing in the sexual side of his life', attributing this distance partly to his own sexuality as a gay man.
Mandelson did not provide a comment following the release of these documents but has consistently and fiercely denied any awareness of Epstein's criminal wrongdoing. He and his partner, Reinaldo Avila da Silva, have been together for nearly three decades.
The emergence of these emails raises significant questions about the nature of Mandelson's relationship with Epstein and the credibility of his previous statements regarding their association.
