Strictly Come Dancing 'Seriously' Considering Move to Salford Amid Major Shake-Up
Strictly bosses 'thinking seriously' over move to Salford

BBC bosses are reportedly contemplating a major geographical shake-up for Strictly Come Dancing, with a potential move from its long-time home in Elstree to Media City in Salford, Greater Manchester.

A Seismic Shift for the Scandal-Hit Show

According to insiders, Kate Phillips, the BBC's Chief Content Officer, is "thinking seriously" about relocating the flagship dance competition. The proposed new home would be the purpose-built Dock 10 studio complex at MediaCityUK. This potential move is seen as a significant statement from the corporation, aiming to refresh the show's image after a period of controversy at its current Elstree studios in Hertfordshire.

A television source described the potential relocation as "seismic," telling The Sun it would make sense from a public relations perspective. "It’s a clear statement of intent from the Beeb, who want to draw a line under the show’s troubled time at Elstree," the insider claimed. They added that there is a "lingering sense of anguish" around the show that executives are keen to dispel.

New Boss and New Presenters on the Horizon

Speculation suggests that any move north could also herald a change in leadership for the programme. Questions are being asked about whether the current long-standing executive producer, Sarah James, is overseeing her final series. This comes on top of the already confirmed departure of the show's iconic presenting duo.

It was announced during the current series that Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will step down from their hosting duties at its conclusion. Daly has been with the show for 21 years, while Winkleman is also the host of the massively successful Traitors. Their exit has sparked intense debate about who will replace them.

Former Strictly professional dancer Ian Waite, who appeared on the show from 2004 to 2009, has weighed in on the search. Speaking on behalf of Zingo Bingo, he suggested a male presenting team could "spice it up." "It's been very much female presenter led... so it would be nice to see some male presenters back in there just to balance it up. I think the public would like to see it," Waite said.

BBC Denies Relocation Plans

Despite the reports, the BBC has officially denied that any move is in the works. A spokesperson told the Mirror, "There are no plans to move Strictly Come Dancing, any suggestion is pure speculation." This statement contrasts with the claims from sources within the industry, leaving the show's future location uncertain.

The potential relocation to Salford is viewed by some as a logical step, aligning with the BBC's broader strategy of increasing production outside London. However, with the corporation's firm denial, it remains to be seen whether this rumoured "seismic" shift will materialise for one of British television's most beloved entertainment programmes.
