Truck Driver Seeks Record Seal After Fatal Crash Course

A Florida truck driver has completed an eight-hour driver education course as part of a plea deal following a 2020 accident that claimed the lives of three teenagers. Now, he is seeking to have his arrest record sealed from public view.

Details of the Incident

Frederic Ivenet, 36, of Orlando, was operating a truck in Livermore, California, on December 21, 2020, when he allegedly made an illegal U-turn on Las Positas Road. The trailer of the truck became stuck across the road, according to the East Bay Times. Moments later, an oncoming Mercedes-Benz struck the trailer, killing three teenagers inside: Rahal Brar, 18, Shej Kumar, 16, and Ian Ericksen, 16.

Initially, Ivenet was charged with vehicular manslaughter in connection with the deaths. However, in September 2025, a judge ruled that the driver should not face a felony charge for merely getting his truck stuck in the road. According to Mercury News, the charges were reduced to three counts of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter on November 1.

Plea Deal and Sentencing

If convicted of felony manslaughter, Ivenet could have faced decades in prison. Instead, he was offered a clean record if he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor roadway obstruction charge and completed an eight-hour driver education course, as reported by the East Bay Times.

On March 11, Ivenet submitted a certificate showing he had completed a course called 'Cheapest Traffic School Online.' Several online traffic schools that claim to be approved by the state of Florida offer similar courses for around $5.

With his case dismissed and a clean record, Ivenet is now in the process of sealing his arrest from public view, according to court records.

Background of the Victims

The three teenagers were heading home after their shifts at a local Baskin-Robbins ice cream store. Brar had picked up his cousin Kumar and friend Ericksen to drive them home.

A GoFundMe page for Brar raised more than $30,000, with donors expressing condolences. One donor wrote: 'All of us in Livermore send our love and support to the families of the three boys. Rest in peace, Rahul, Shej and Ian.' Another added: 'I know God is taking care of these three young beautiful souls.'

Legal Proceedings

Ivenet remained out of jail for most of the trial after posting bail quickly. He allegedly got out of his truck to inform a nearby business owner that he was stuck before the collision occurred. Two of the teens died at the scene, while the third succumbed to injuries at a local hospital.
