King Charles III and Queen Camilla were officially greeted with a state ceremony by President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump at the White House on the second day of their historic state visit to the United States.
Arrival and Ceremonial Welcome
After arriving in the United States on Monday afternoon for tea and a tour of the White House beehives, King Charles commenced the second day of the state visit with an official ceremony lined with US military figures and members of both UK and US delegations.
The monarchs shook hands with members of the US delegation, including US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, while Trump shook hands with foreign secretary Yvette Cooper and UK ambassador to the US Sir Christian Turner before the national anthems played.
Historic Address to Congress
The monarch is set to give a historic address to Congress later on Tuesday, the second time a British monarch has done so after Queen Elizabeth II in 1991.
The state visit is under heightened security following Saturday’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
