Pep Guardiola Slams Sky Sports Over 'Misrepresented' Words in Press Conference
Guardiola Clashes with Sky Sports Over Reporting

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has launched a fresh and pointed attack on broadcaster Sky Sports, accusing them of distorting his words in their coverage.

A Long-Running Dispute Escalates

The Catalan coach's dissatisfaction with the Premier League's primary television partner is a well-documented theme of his near-decade in England. However, tensions have risen sharply in recent weeks. This discord led to Sky reporters being barred from asking questions at a media briefing in December, a move widely believed to have been instigated by Guardiola himself after he viewed content on the channel's rolling news service.

The Press Conference Flashpoint

The latest clash occurred during a live press conference when Guardiola was questioned about City's reported interest in Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo. In a sarcastic retort, the 54-year-old directly called out the media giant. "You are from Sky, right? OK, good," Guardiola stated. "I have to be careful what I say. After that, it is completely the opposite of what you write and put on the screen."

He linked this accusation directly to the transfer speculation, adding: "That is why I said yesterday before and the day of the game - the transfer window is completely closed right now." Despite his public dismissal, reports indicate City are working to finalise a £65 million deal for Semenyo in the coming days.

Focus Turns to Tough Sunderland Test

Guardiola now turns his attention to City's New Year's Day fixture away at Sunderland. He was quick to highlight the challenge posed by the newly-promoted side, who remain unbeaten at the Stadium of Light this season. "Sunderland are so tough," he warned. "I remember in my first season when I went there the crowd was unbelievable. They have beaten Newcastle, plus Arsenal and Aston Villa could not win there. It will be really difficult but at the same time we are ready."

In a significant boost, midfielder Rodri could feature after playing just one minute of football since the start of October. On the outgoing front, Oscar Bobb is in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a loan move that could include a £30 million permanent option.

When pressed on the title race, Guardiola noted the fluctuating narrative: "A few weeks ago it was just Arsenal, two days ago it was three with City and Aston Villa and now two so we will see." The remarks underscore his view that media portrayals, much like the title battle, are subject to constant and often unreliable change.
