Reality television star Katie Price has shared a profoundly emotional moment with her fans, revealing the life-changing Christmas gift she gave to her mother, Amy. The 47-year-old presenter bought her 73-year-old mum a mobility scooter, bringing Amy to tears of joy and offering her a renewed sense of independence.
A Gift of Freedom and Independence
Amy Price was diagnosed with the terminal lung condition Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in 2017, at which time she was given an estimated five years to live. The disease causes lung tissue to thicken and scar, severely impacting breathing. Nearly a decade on from her diagnosis, Amy's mobility has become significantly challenged.
In a festive highlights reel posted to her YouTube channel after the 2025 Christmas celebrations, Katie documented the special moment she presented her mother with the thoughtful present. The footage showed Katie giving Amy a driving lesson, patiently demonstrating how to manoeuvre the scooter forwards and backwards.
Emotional Scenes Capture a Mother's Gratitude
Visibly overwhelmed, Amy became tearful as she thanked her daughter for the gift. "I'm going to have some fun on this. I think it opens up..." she said, struggling to speak through her emotions before breaking down again. Katie immediately comforted her mother with a hug.
When Katie asked if the scooter felt like a "new lease of life" that would grant her "more freedom", Amy nodded in agreement. Addressing her viewers directly, Katie explained her happiness, stating, "She's got a new lease of life... I'm happy because she's got more independence. In the summer she can go down the beach." She also noted the scooter's practical range, capable of covering 12.5 miles on a full charge.
Fan Reaction and Ongoing Health Battle
The heartwarming video resonated deeply with Katie's audience, flooding the comments section with messages of support. Many admitted the footage moved them to tears, praising Katie for showing a tender and supportive side. One fan wrote, "Made me cry when your mum cried over her newfound freedom," while another noted, "There is such a kind, supportive side of Katie."
This update comes after Katie shared in a podcast earlier in the year, in March, that her mother continued to struggle with walking following a lung transplant. Amy expressed her own frustration, saying, "It's not doing me any good because I'm meant to walk to help myself," but held onto hope of regaining her ability to walk by the summer.
The bond between mother and daughter has been a constant throughout Katie's career in the public eye since the 1990s, with Amy frequently appearing on her daughter's TV shows and in interviews. This latest chapter highlights their close relationship amidst ongoing health challenges.
