Guardiola Mourns Silva Departure: 'Part of Myself is Leaving'
Guardiola: 'Part of Myself Leaves with Silva' at Man City

Guardiola's Emotional Farewell to Silva as Manchester City Era Ends

Pep Guardiola has confessed that "part of myself is leaving" with Bernardo Silva, as the Manchester City manager prepares for the Portugal international's departure at the season's conclusion. The long-serving playmaker confirmed on Thursday that he will exit the club when his contract expires, ending a glittering nine-year tenure in the north-west.

Silva's Legacy and Guardiola's Tribute

Guardiola, speaking ahead of Sunday's crucial top-two clash against league leaders Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, emphasised Silva's "massively, massively, massively important" role. He hopes the team can deliver more silverware to add to the 19 honours Silva has already won, with City targeting the Premier League and FA Cup to complete a domestic treble.

"When these types of players are going, and there have been many in the last years, part of myself is leaving too," Guardiola stated. "It will be difficult imagining the club without him. He made an incredible statement during nine years."

Statistical Impact and Squad Transition

Silva's contributions are quantifiable: 76 goals and 77 assists in 451 appearances for Manchester City. His exit follows a wave of departures over the past year, including Kyle Walker, Ilkay Gundogan, Ederson, and Kevin de Bruyne. The club has integrated new signings like Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, Antoine Semenyo, and Marc Guehi, with Nico O'Reilly and Abdukodir Khusanov now established first-team regulars.

Guardiola dismissed suggestions that City enter the title run-in with more conviction than Arsenal, noting the squad's inexperience. "Cherki, for example, has never won the Premier League so we don't know how he is going to behave," he explained. "There are a lot of players who are going to play who maybe will win their first Premier League title. I don't know how they will behave."

Pressure and Ambition for the Final Push

Despite the transition, Guardiola insists his players must embrace the pressure as they chase a fifth league title in six seasons. "We need that pressure," he added. "To compete good against that team, they have to know that if we don't win, it's over. They know it, we talk about that."

He remains optimistic about Silva's final contributions, saying, "Hopefully we can deliver to him, he's going to help us, I know that. He's a special player, hopefully we can deliver a good month, a few days, because he deserves it." With Arsenal's lead potentially shrinking to three points if they lose, City's game in hand adds intrigue to the title race.
