Luke Littler Declares 'Not Finished' After Premier League Darts Resurgence
Luke Littler: 'Not Finished' After Premier League Darts Comeback

World number one Luke Littler has emphatically declared he is "not finished" following a dramatic resurgence in form during the Premier League Darts competition. The teenage sensation struggled significantly in the opening weeks of the tournament before mounting an impressive comeback that has silenced early doubters.

From Slow Start to Table-Topping Form

Littler's campaign began with unexpected difficulties, as he failed to find his rhythm during the initial stages. However, the turning point arrived on night five in Cardiff, where he reached his first final of the competition by defeating Jonny Clayton. This breakthrough performance marked the beginning of a remarkable turnaround for the young darts star.

Since that pivotal moment in Wales, Littler has secured consecutive victories in Dublin and Berlin, propelling him to the summit of the Premier League standings. With 21 points accumulated, he now holds a two-point advantage over Clayton heading into night nine in Manchester, where he is scheduled to face Gian van Veen in the quarter-finals.

Responding to Early Criticism

When questioned about his initial struggles and subsequent recovery, Littler offered a philosophical perspective. "It is what it is. We win some, we lose some, we're going to play bad then we'll bounce back even better," he stated. "I think that's what I've done. I've shown everyone that I'm not finished as everyone was saying after the first few weeks and I'm back where I belong."

The 19-year-old emphasized that his current position at the top of the table reflects where he believes he should naturally be competing. "It's just from what I've done, just bounced back from a bad start back to where I think I should belong – is at the top," Littler explained.

Intense Competition for O2 Finals

With eight more nights remaining before the top four players advance to next month's finals at London's O2 Arena, the competition remains fiercely contested. Clayton continues to apply pressure just two points behind Littler, while Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen currently occupy the remaining qualification positions.

Littler acknowledged the relentless pursuit from his rivals, noting: "Jonny's had a great start as well, but there's no doubt Jonny will keep chasing, everyone's going to keep chasing for top spot. Everyone wants it, we know that. We've just got to keep going."

Targeting Qualification

Regarding the points required to secure his place in the O2 finals, Littler provided a clear target. "The last few years, I think it's been about 25 or 26 points gets you in. Call it 30 points and then I'll say I'm in," he revealed, setting himself an ambitious benchmark for the remaining fixtures.

Meanwhile, other quarter-final matchups for Thursday's Manchester event include van Gerwen against Stephen Bunting, Price versus Luke Humphries, and Clayton taking on Josh Rock – who earned his first victory of the competition last week in Berlin.

Littler's remarkable turnaround from early struggles to table-topping dominance serves as a powerful statement to the darts world, demonstrating both resilience and championship mentality as the Premier League season approaches its climax.
