Tottenham Considering Glenn Hoddle as Manager After 20-Year Hiatus

Tottenham Hotspur have initiated a search for their third manager of the season, with former club icon Glenn Hoddle emerging as a potential candidate to take charge for the remainder of the campaign. This development follows the abrupt exit of Igor Tudor, who left the North London club after a disastrous 44-day spell in charge.

Hoddle's Deep Connection to Tottenham

According to reports from Mail Online, Spurs have been exploring short-term managerial options over the past week as they aim to stabilise the team until the summer. Glenn Hoddle, a former Tottenham midfielder and manager, is said to be on the list of contenders. Hoddle has not managed a club since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2006, marking nearly two decades away from the dugout.

Hoddle expressed openness to a return, stating, "I think I would, actually. Particularly with Tottenham, as that's my club. I've supported them since I was eight years of age. So they were a massive part of my life." His deep knowledge of the club stems from his playing days, where he made his name, and his previous managerial tenure from March 2001 to September 2003.

Support for Robbie Keane and Experienced Guidance

In addition to his own candidacy, Hoddle suggested that former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane would be an ideal candidate for the role. He added, "Robbie's doing great as a young manager. So to have a steady springboard and someone experienced like myself would be a good formula, in many ways. I think it'd be a shrewd move to have somebody, whether it was me or somebody experienced with him."

This sentiment echoes comments from former players Joe Cole and Peter Crouch, who recently argued that Spurs need a manager with an understanding of the club. Cole emphasised the importance of a "club legend" like Keane or Hoddle, while Crouch highlighted how such an appointment could galvanise the crowd and provide a "12th man" effect, even if it ultimately does not work out long-term.

Tottenham's Precarious League Position

Tottenham currently sit 17th in the Premier League table, just one point clear of the relegation zone, intensifying the urgency of their managerial search. Their next match is against Sunderland in two weeks, adding pressure to secure a new manager quickly to steer the team away from danger.

The club's decision to consider Hoddle reflects a desire for stability and familiarity during a turbulent season, as they navigate the challenges of top-flight football while planning for future changes in the summer.
