Los Angeles 2028 Olympics Ticket Sales Set for April Launch with Emphasis on Affordability and Security
The Los Angeles Olympics, scheduled to commence on 14 July 2028, have announced that tickets will go on sale to the general public on 9 April. This move comes as LA28 organizers aim to provide accessible pricing and robust security measures for fans eager to attend the global sporting event.
Affordable Ticket Pricing Structure Unveiled
LA28 has revealed a comprehensive pricing strategy designed to cater to a wide audience. The programme will include 1 million tickets priced at just $28, marking the lowest price point available. Additionally, more than 75% of all tickets, including those for finals events, will be priced under $400, with nearly 50% costing less than $200. However, roughly 5% of Olympic tickets will exceed $1,000, reflecting premium seating options.
Allison Katz-Mayfield, LA28’s senior vice-president of Games delivery revenue, emphasized that these prices are comparable to or lower than those for other major professional sporting and entertainment events in the United States. This pricing approach follows criticism of high costs at events like the 2026 World Cup, where some tickets reached thousands of dollars.
Presale and Verified Resale Platforms Announced
A presale for residents in qualifying areas of Los Angeles and Oklahoma City, which will host softball and canoe slalom events, will begin on 2 April, offering early access to tickets. To enhance ticket security, LA28 has named a group of verified resale platforms, including AXS and Eventim as the official secondary ticket marketplaces, with Ticketmaster and Sports Illustrated Tickets also designated as verified options. The verified multi-platform resale programme is set to open in 2027.
LA28 chief executive officer Reynold Hoover stated that providing multiple platforms is critical for ensuring fans have access to verified tickets, though resale will not be available until 2027. Organizers have warned against purchasing from unauthorised sellers, noting that primary tickets will only be sold through official providers, AXS and Eventim.
Efforts to Combat Fraud and Ensure Fan Safety
The announcement aims to reassure fans about ticket authenticity and prevent fraud. LA28 has clarified that any tickets offered for resale before 2027 should not be considered verified, urging caution among buyers. This proactive measure seeks to protect consumers from scams and unauthorised sales, aligning with broader industry trends towards secure ticketing practices.
As the first ticket drop approaches, LA28 continues to prepare for high demand, leveraging these strategies to make the Olympics more inclusive and secure for attendees worldwide.
