The highly praised episodic superhero narrative game Dispatch, which was celebrated as one of 2025's standout titles, has finally arrived on Nintendo Switch consoles. However, its debut on Nintendo's platform has been marred by significant controversy, as the Switch version features mandatory censorship of adult content that was optional or absent on other systems.
Platform-Specific Content Restrictions Lead to Altered Experience
Unlike the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC releases where players could choose whether to enable profanity filters, the Nintendo Switch version of Dispatch has these censorship measures enabled by default without any option to disable them. This includes black boxes obscuring nudity and genitalia, removal of sexually suggestive dialogue, and even censorship of middle-finger gestures that were present in the original release.
Developer AdHoc Studios explained the situation to NintendoLife, stating: "Different platforms have different content criteria, and submissions are evaluated individually. For our Switch release, we worked with Nintendo to adapt certain elements so Dispatch could be on their platform." This suggests that without these alterations, the game would not have been approved for release on Nintendo's ecosystem at all.
