The National Lottery has achieved a remarkable milestone in 2025, creating a new millionaire for every single day of the year. The operator, Allwyn, announced that a total of 365 new millionaires were made over the last twelve months.
A Year of Record-Breaking Wins
In their annual round-up, Allwyn revealed that the 2025 winners shared an astonishing £702 million between them. This impressive sum was significantly boosted by four major EuroMillions wins, which together accounted for £199 million. The year's biggest individual prize was an £83 million EuroMillions jackpot won by an anonymous player in January.
This year's success adds to a historic legacy. Since its launch in November 1994, the National Lottery has now created more than 7,700 millionaires across the United Kingdom.
Defying Incredible Odds
One of the most extraordinary stories of the year came from mid-Wales, where a couple achieved what was described as a near-miracle. Richard Davies and his wife Faye Stevenson-Davies won £1 million for a second time, having previously scooped the same amount in 2018. Lottery officials stated the odds of this double win were a staggering 24 trillion to one.
A survey of winners uncovered interesting trends about who got lucky in 2025. The luckiest professions were community workers and charity employees, followed by builders, drivers, and managers. In terms of star signs, Cancer was the most common among winners, with Aries and Scorpio close behind.
Funding for Good Causes Continues to Grow
Beyond creating millionaires, the National Lottery emphasised its ongoing contribution to society. Over its 31-year history, the lottery has now raised a colossal £52 billion for good causes. In just the first eleven months of 2025, it distributed £1.1 billion to support community projects, charities, and sectors including arts, heritage, and sport across the UK.
Andy Carter, Senior Winners' Adviser at Allwyn, commented on the year's achievements. "2025 has been another incredible year – we’ve been busier than ever turning everyday people into millionaires," he said. "There’s nothing quite like meeting our winners and seeing the moment their lives change. But it’s not just about the prizes. Every ticket played helps fund projects that make a real difference to communities across the UK."
Carter added that whether it's supporting sport, heritage, arts or local causes, National Lottery players are helping to change lives every single day. "And it all starts with that little pink ticket," he concluded.
