Florida Woman Confesses to Stabbing Veteran Roommate, Leaving Body Under Tarp

A 48-year-old Florida woman has been arrested and charged with murder after she confessed to stabbing her 76-year-old roommate to death, covering his remains with a tarp, and fleeing the scene in his pickup truck. The incident occurred in Punta Gorda, approximately 55 miles south of Sarasota, and has sent shockwaves through the quiet Charlotte Ranchettes neighborhood.

Arrest and Confession Following a Fatal Argument

Shannon Rose Giblin was taken into custody by the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office after deputies tracked the victim's missing vehicle to Sarasota County. During questioning, Giblin admitted to stabbing military veteran Paul De Wayne Bradley inside his home on Sunday following a heated argument. Authorities had initially been called to the residence after receiving a report of a person not breathing, where they discovered Bradley deceased and beyond medical assistance.

After realizing the victim was beyond help, Giblin then covered Bradley with a tarp and left the scene in the victim's pickup truck, the sheriff's office stated in a press release. Giblin now faces charges of murder, classified as not premeditated, and grand theft of a motor vehicle. She is currently being held in jail without bond as the investigation continues.

Neighbors Mourn a 'Super Nice' Veteran

News of Bradley's violent death has deeply affected those who knew him in the community. Neighbors remembered him as a kind and generous man who had survived wars and a recent heart attack, only to meet a tragic end. He was a veteran. He went through wars and came back, he survived a heart attack not long ago, and then this is what takes his life. Nobody deserves that, neighbor Jody Scharping told local news outlet WINK News.

Bradley had lived in the home with his wife until her passing a few years ago. More recently, he had allowed a woman to move in to assist him with household tasks. Scharping noted that the living situation had become strained, suggesting that Bradley was planning to evict Giblin on the day of the incident. From my understanding, things weren't going really well...but he was gonna, I guess, evict her that day, and then that happened, so I'm assuming something didn't go right, she explained.

A Brief and Troubled Living Arrangement

Friends of the victim revealed that Giblin had claimed to be an at-home caregiver and had only resided with Bradley for about a week prior to the alleged attack. Adam LaFleur, a friend of Bradley's, told Gulf Coast News that Giblin began exhibiting strange behavior shortly after moving in. Within two or three days, she started doing some strange things. She lied to him about a few things, LaFleur said. He caught that right away. According to LaFleur, Bradley confronted Giblin and told her she had to leave, which sparked the argument that led to the stabbing.

Giblin's family has issued a public apology for the killing, expressing profound sorrow in a statement to Gulf Coast News. We can only imagine the pain you're feeling. And words can hardly express how heartbroken we are and how very sincerely we apologize that this has been thrust upon you. We are so very sorry, the statement read in part. The community continues to grieve the loss of a respected veteran, with neighbors like Parker Daigle remembering him fondly. He was a super nice guy. Always bought me lunch. I worked with him a lot. I helped him clean out all the sheds. Nobody hated him. He was just a super nice dude. I didn't think anybody would ever do that to him.
