A murder investigation has been launched following the fatal stabbing of a 68-year-old woman in the quiet Hampshire village of Cheriton.
Police Discover Fatal Scene
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary were called to a property off the B3046 at 10.31am last Friday, 9th February. They discovered the victim, who has since been formally identified as Gilly Livie, with a serious stab wound to her neck. Despite the efforts of police and ambulance crews at the scene, she was pronounced dead.
Police also found a 39-year-old man, known to Ms Livie, at the address. He had sustained life-threatening injuries to his neck and leg. He was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
Tributes for a 'Beautiful Soul'
The local community has been left reeling by the incident, with friends and neighbours paying heartfelt tributes to Ms Livie. She has been described as a 'much-loved mother and grandmother' and a 'beautiful soul'.
One friend wrote in an online tribute: 'Gilly was such a wonderful lady. This is heartbreaking for all involved. So much love to all those affected.' Another added: 'Gilly was a beautiful soul, generous and kind with a wonderful hug.'
Ongoing Police Investigation
A post-mortem examination confirmed that Ms Livie died as a result of a stab wound to the neck. Hampshire Constabulary has stated it is not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and does not believe there is any ongoing risk to the wider community.
Chief Inspector Korine Bishop said: 'We know this incident will cause great shock in the community. I want to reassure people we have a large number of officers working hard on this investigation.'
Officers are continuing their enquiries in the area and have appealed to residents for assistance. The force is asking anyone in Cheriton with CCTV to check their footage between 11pm on 8th January and 11am on 9th January.
