Former Arsenal Midfielder Thomas Partey to Contest New Rape Allegations

Thomas Partey, the 32-year-old former Arsenal midfielder currently playing for Spanish club Villarreal, has declared his intention to plead not guilty to two new counts of rape. The charges, which were formally presented at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, relate to an alleged incident involving one victim in December 2020.

Court Proceedings and Legal Representation

During the preliminary hearing, Partey was not physically present in court, as he had been excused from attendance. However, his legal representative, Emma Fenn, clearly indicated that the footballer plans to deny both allegations. Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram presided over the session, managing the early stages of the case.

The prosecution, led by Arabella MacDonald, informed the court that the new charges emerged after the complainant came forward in August 2025. This followed widespread media coverage of Partey's previous legal matters, which have drawn significant public attention.

Background of Previous Charges and Football Career

These latest allegations add to an existing legal battle for Partey. In September, he appeared at Southwark Crown Court to deny five counts of rape against two other women and a charge of sexual assault against a third individual. Those alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, during his tenure with Arsenal.

A trial for those earlier charges is scheduled to begin on November 2 this year and will be conducted under a High Court judge, highlighting the severity and complexity of the case.

Partey spent five years at Arsenal, making 167 appearances and scoring nine goals before his contract expired on June 30 last year. Notably, he was charged just four days after leaving the club. He subsequently joined Villarreal on a one-year contract, with an option for an additional 12 months, and has played 24 times for the team this season.

Bail Conditions and Future Court Dates

Following Friday's hearing, Partey was released on bail with specific conditions, including a requirement that he does not contact the alleged victim. The next court hearing is set for April 10, where further proceedings will unfold as the legal process continues.

This case has cast a shadow over Partey's professional career, intertwining his football achievements with serious criminal allegations that are yet to be resolved in court.
