Woman Faces Court Over Fatal XL Bully Attack That Killed Teenager
A woman has been formally charged following a tragic incident where an XL bully dog fatally attacked a teenager in Bristol. Kelcie Reed, aged 24, is scheduled to appear in court next month, accused of being in charge of a dog that was dangerously out of control, resulting in injury and death.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The victim, Morgan Dorsett, was only 19 years old when she suffered fatal bites to the neck during the attack inside a flat in Withywood, Bristol. The incident occurred on 26 February 2025, and the dog was subsequently put down by authorities. Morgan, originally from Shrewsbury in Shropshire, tragically lost her life in this violent encounter.
Legal Proceedings and Police Investigation
Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that Reed, who resides in Lawrence Weston, Bristol, is due to appear before the city's magistrates court on 23 April. A man in his 20s was also arrested in connection with the case in 2025 but will face no further action, according to police statements.
Detective Sergeant Rich Glanville commented on the development, stating, "This is a significant milestone in our investigation into Morgan's tragic death last year. Her family continue to be updated on the progress of our investigation and supported by a specially trained family liaison officer."
Background on XL Bully Breed Restrictions
XL bullies have been banned in the United Kingdom for years due to a series of concerning attacks linked to the breed. It is currently illegal to own an XL bully without a certificate of exemption, and activities such as breeding, selling, or abandoning these dogs are also prohibited under UK law.
This case underscores the ongoing risks associated with banned dog breeds and the legal responsibilities of owners to control their animals. The community and authorities remain vigilant in enforcing regulations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
