Ben Shephard Celebrates 22 Years of Marriage with Rare Tribute to Wife Annie
This Morning presenter Ben Shephard has publicly honoured his wife Annie with a heartfelt tribute to mark their 22nd wedding anniversary, sharing a rare photo and sweet message that has drawn support from celebrity friends.
The television host, 51, posted a throwback snap of the young couple alongside a caption reflecting on their long-lasting union. He wrote: "So 22 yrs ago today @mrsannieshephard said 'oh go on then' and that was that!" In his message, Shephard gushed that Annie remains the "best thing to ever happen to me", humorously adding that West Ham footballer Mark Noble is a close second.
Celebrity Friends Rally with Congratulatory Messages
The post quickly garnered attention from Shephard's showbiz colleagues, with comedian Joel Dommett commenting "This is THE BEST" and his This Morning co-host Cat Deeley responding: "'Oh go on then' The Marvelous Mrs Sheps." Fans also flooded the comments with well-wishes, praising the couple as a "beautiful looking pair" and noting that "behind every great man is a great woman."
A Private Marriage in the Public Eye
Ben and Annie Shephard, who met as students at the University of Birmingham, tied the knot in 2004 in Salcombe, Devon. Despite Shephard's high-profile career, the couple has largely kept their home life out of the spotlight, sharing two sons: Sam, 21, who is studying mathematics at university, and Jack, 19, a teaching assistant preparing to travel.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail's Weekend magazine, Shephard offered a rare glimpse into their dynamic, explaining that Annie prefers a more solitary lifestyle and is disinterested in the showbiz aspect of his work. "Annie is much more solitary than me," he shared. "She's much happier in her own company. Half the time she's like, 'I need a bit of space. Can you leave me alone for five seconds, please?'"
Navigating Life as Empty-Nesters
As their sons approach adulthood, the couple is preparing for the "imminent" transition to becoming empty-nesters. Shephard noted that they already lead somewhat separate lives, with him often working and Annie pursuing her career in garden and interior design. "We do live quite separate lives," he admitted. "I'm off working, she has her job. If I've got spare time I want to do something physical."
Despite these differences, Shephard emphasised that Annie is the "most important factor in our lives as a family", underscoring the strength of their bond after over two decades together. The anniversary tribute serves as a touching reminder of their enduring partnership, blending private affection with public celebration.
