Coronation Street's Theo Actor Stars with Famous Father in New Comedy-Horror Film
Coronation Street's Theo Actor Works with Dad in New Film

Coronation Street actor James Cartwright, known for his role as the manipulative Theo Silverton on the ITV soap, has secured a new acting venture beyond the cobbles. He will appear in the upcoming comedy-horror film Bjorn of the Dead, sharing the screen with his real-life famous father, acclaimed playwright Jim Cartwright.

From Soap Villain to Film Star

James Cartwright joined Coronation Street last year, portraying Theo Silverton, the romantic interest of Todd Grimshaw, played by Gareth Pierce. Initially, their relationship seemed promising, but it quickly turned toxic as Theo's true nature emerged. The character was revealed to be manipulative and abusive, dominating Todd's life and escalating to physical attacks, including a recent knife-brandishing incident that led to their breakup.

In recent episodes, Theo's storyline has intensified, with him overhearing gossip about Todd's overnight guest, leaving him incensed. Additionally, speculation mounts as Theo is among five potential casualties who could be murdered next month, following a flash-forward broadcast earlier this year. While it remains unconfirmed whether James is leaving the soap, his new film role marks a significant career move.

A 'Brilliant' New Project

Bjorn of the Dead is a comedy-horror film that follows an ABBA tribute act battling zombies at the onset of an apocalypse. James Cartwright plays Benny in the production, which he describes as a potential cult classic. In an interview with Absolutely Magazine, he praised the film, saying, "I see it being a cult classic. It's brilliant, it's funny, it's charming."

The film features notable stars, including Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer of Iron Maiden, and the actual Bjorn from ABBA, alongside James. He credited the director, Austin Dickinson, for creating this "fantastic film" and expressed excitement about the project, noting it will be "incredibly fun."

Family Collaboration on Screen

Adding a personal touch to the film, James will work alongside his father, Jim Cartwright, who portrays an Elder Tribute. Jim is a renowned author and playwright, best known for his 1992 play The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, which was adapted into a 1998 film starring Jane Horrocks and Michael Caine. He has also contributed to Coronation Street, writing several episodes and even making a cameo appearance in 2016 as Nigel, the ex-husband of Nessa, sister to Cathy Matthews.

This collaboration highlights a unique family dynamic in the entertainment industry, blending James's rising soap opera fame with Jim's established literary and theatrical success. As James continues to navigate his role on Coronation Street, his involvement in Bjorn of the Dead showcases his versatility and ambition in the acting world.

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, while fans eagerly await further details on the release of Bjorn of the Dead.
