Pierce Brosnan Fans Defend His 30-Year Marriage After Vile Troll Attack
Fans defend Pierce Brosnan's marriage after online troll

Fans of James Bond star Pierce Brosnan have launched a staunch defence of the actor and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, after a malicious social media user targeted their long-term marriage in a vile online post.

A Cruel Comparison Sparks Outrage

The incident unfolded on Sunday when a user on the platform X, formerly Twitter, shared two comparison images of the couple. One photo was from the 1996 Academy Awards Governors Ball, and the other was taken at the 2008 premiere of Mamma Mia! The anonymous troll captioned the snaps with a shocking comment intended to act as a 'reminder to avoid marriage'.

The post was swiftly met with a barrage of backlash from Brosnan's supporters and other social media users. They flooded the thread with messages of support for the couple, who have been together since 1994 and married since 2001. Many insisted the images were, in fact, a perfect advertisement for true love and lasting commitment.

Fans Rally in Defence of a 'Beautiful' Bond

The defensive responses were united in their praise for the couple's enduring relationship. One fan wrote, 'I don't get some men on X devotion to degrade Brosnan's wife. They're both happy, aging gracefully, and she was & is absolutely gorgeous.'

Another stated that the 72-year-old actor had 'won the lottery of life', adding, 'Dude's been married 30 years and they've both aged gracefully.' The sentiment was widely echoed, with users highlighting the shallow nature of the original attack.

Further supportive comments included:

  • 'Agreed. If you're this shallow and stupid, you should avoid marriage at all costs. Sincerely, women everywhere...'
  • 'She is such a beautiful woman. How lucky they are to share that bond over so many years.'
  • 'Dear men and women. This is what lifelong love looks like…. Enjoy it. It's hard to find.'
  • 'Pierce is one of the happiest men in Hollywood and I think his wife is beautiful in both photos.'

Many pointed out that the couple appeared genuinely happy and 'glowing' in both photographs, taken over a decade apart.

The Secret to a Lasting Hollywood Marriage

Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye Smith's relationship began in 1994 in Mexico. Keely, a journalist and documentary filmmaker, later told People magazine she found the actor immediately 'captivating' with a 'mischievous sparkle in his eyes'. Brosnan, whose first wife Cassandra Harris died from cancer in 1991, has often spoken about finding love again.

In an interview last June, Brosnan opened up about their 'blessed' life together. 'Keely and I love each other and are blessed to have each other as companions in this life,' he said. 'And we've created a good life for ourselves of hard work and perseverance of life.'

When asked about the secret to their long union, he offered a pragmatic view: 'You know, it's just solving one problem after the [other], whether it's the washing machine or how far the finances are going to go or what your dreams are... But, ultimately, we just enjoy each other's company enormously.'

The couple share two children together. Keely, who grew up in Hawaii, has dedicated much of her career to environmental journalism and campaigns protecting marine wildlife, particularly in the Pacific and Mexico.

Reflecting on his wife in a past interview, Brosnan said, 'I found a great woman in Keely Shaye. Not if I searched a million times over would I find one as good.' This recent online attack has only served to reinforce public admiration for a Hollywood partnership that has defied the odds and thrived for over three decades.
