The incident unfolded on Sunday when a user on the platform X, formerly Twitter, shared two comparison images of the couple. One photo was from the 1996 Academy Awards Governors Ball, and the other was taken at the 2008 premiere of Mamma Mia! The anonymous troll captioned the snaps with a shocking comment intended to act as a 'reminder to avoid marriage'.
The post was swiftly met with a barrage of backlash from Brosnan's supporters and other social media users. They flooded the thread with messages of support for the couple, who have been together since 1994 and married since 2001. Many insisted the images were, in fact, a perfect advertisement for true love and lasting commitment.
Fans Rally in Defence of a 'Beautiful' Bond
The defensive responses were united in their praise for the couple's enduring relationship. One fan wrote, 'I don't get some men on X devotion to degrade Brosnan's wife. They're both happy, aging gracefully, and she was & is absolutely gorgeous.'

Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye Smith's relationship began in 1994 in Mexico. Keely, a journalist and documentary filmmaker, later told People magazine she found the actor immediately 'captivating' with a 'mischievous sparkle in his eyes'. Brosnan, whose first wife Cassandra Harris died from cancer in 1991, has often spoken about finding love again.
