Welsh actor Michael Sheen has offered a charming and rare insight into his family life, revealing his young daughter's hilarious habit of working as his "unofficial agent." The 57-year-old star, known for roles in "Good Omens" and "Frost/Nixon," shared the amusing anecdote during a recent podcast appearance.
Lyra's Agent-Like Announcements
Speaking on Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly's "Hanging Out" podcast, Sheen recalled how his six-year-old daughter Lyra came to realize her father was famous. "Lyra my six-year-old, when we're out and about she will shout 'Michael Sheen is here!'" the actor laughed. He explained that the little one noticed when fans approached him in public, before cheekily attempting to introduce herself to them instead.
"As she started to understand I was on TV, it's turned into this thing now when she's like my agent: 'Michael Sheen is in the building!'" Sheen revealed, describing how Lyra has embraced her self-appointed role with enthusiasm. The actor shares Lyra along with four-year-old daughter Mabli with his long-term partner, Swedish actress Anna Lundberg, 32.
Family Dynamics and Age Gap
Michael Sheen's family life has occasionally drawn public attention due to the 25-year age difference between him and Lundberg. The actor was previously questioned about this on BBC's "The Assembly," where he faced questions from 35 neurodivergent individuals. One young woman asked pointedly: "How does it feel to be dating someone who is only five years older than your daughter?" in reference to Sheen's 26-year-old daughter Lily Mo Sheen from his previous relationship with actress Kate Beckinsale.
Sheen, who has been in a relationship with Lundberg since 2019 after they appeared together in "Staged," responded thoughtfully. "I think because of the age difference, I think both of us were quite surprised when we got together," he explained. "I don't think either of us were looking for that. It's not like I've dated lots of people who are much younger than me, but you meet who you meet."
Navigating Challenges Together
The actor acknowledged the couple's awareness of potential difficulties from the beginning. "We were very aware of what differences that might make and how they might respond to that," Sheen continued. "It's not like it was the easiest thing to do. We were both aware it would be difficult and challenging. Ultimately, we felt it was worth it because of how we felt about each other."
Sheen expressed both joy and concern about being an older father. "Now we have two beautiful children together. I'm really happy because of the age difference I know I'm an older father. It does worry me. It makes me sad thinking about the time I won't have with them," he admitted. "But I think if you find someone who brings you happiness and you make them happy. You've got to go for that I think and I'm so happy we did as we have this wonderful family now."
Previous Relationship and Co-Parenting
Before his relationship with Lundberg, Sheen was in a seven-year relationship with Kate Beckinsale after they met in 1995 during a touring production of "The Seagull." Their daughter Lily was born in 1999. Though the couple split in 2003, they have remained close friends and successful co-parents to their now-adult daughter.
The actor's current family life, with Lyra's enthusiastic "agent" announcements and his reflections on fatherhood at different stages of life, provides a heartwarming glimpse into the personal world of one of Britain's most respected actors. Sheen's openness about both the joys and challenges of his family situation offers a relatable perspective on modern family dynamics.
