Three high-profile contestants have dramatically withdrawn from the latest series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins during a single, intense episode. The departures of former Neighbours actor Ryan Moloney, ex-England cricketer Graeme Swann, and Gladiators star Toby Olubi have sent shockwaves through the camp, highlighting the extreme physical and mental demands of the Channel 4 reality challenge.
Mental Health Concerns Force Actor's Exit
The most poignant exit came from Australian actor Ryan Moloney, 46, best known for playing Jarrod 'Toadfish' Rebecchi. During Sunday night's episode, Moloney confided in fellow recruits that he was "mentally spiralling" and was unsure if he had taken his ADHD medication. This admission prompted the show's directing staff to call in the camp psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist warned that the day's planned activities would be chaotic and that continuing could "ruin him". Subsequently, Moloney was summoned by chief instructor Jason "Foxy" Fox for a discussion. Moloney made the difficult decision to withdraw, stating he would "love to be available for all of the challenge" but could not continue.
Fox supported his choice, telling him to "hold your head high, you've been awesome." Moloney later reflected that the experience taught him to face his fears, saying, "I did something that I was scared of doing, and I did it anyway."
Injury Ends Cricketer's Campaign
Later in the same programme, former England spin bowler Graeme Swann, also 46, was medically withdrawn by the directing staff due to an arm injury. The ex-cricketer, who is no stranger to physical risk from his sporting career, accepted the decision.
After becoming the eighth recruit to leave, an emotional Swann told the staff, "It's been amazing, it's been emotional, f*** me, you can break people can't you." His departure underscored the brutal physical toll the course extracts, even from elite athletes.
High-Pressure Task Sees Final Departure
The episode featured two gruelling challenges. The first saw recruits navigating a village under simulated fire before their vehicles were disabled, forcing them to push to an extraction point. The second task required a hostage rescue and laptop retrieval against a strict clock.
It was after this high-pressure mission that Toby Olubi, the 38-year-old British sprinter and bobsledder, was pulled from the course by the directing staff. As the ninth participant to exit, Olubi simply told his remaining comrades, "It's been a pleasure guys."
Other Dramatic Moments
The episode also featured intense questioning for Australian ex-Olympic swimmer Mack Horton. He was grilled about the fallout from his 2019 podium protest against Chinese swimmer Sun Yang, whom he accused of doping. Horton revealed the severe personal consequences, including his family being followed, his father's business being hacked, and their home being broken into.
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues on Channel 4, airing on Monday at 9pm. The series promises further tests of endurance and resilience for the remaining celebrities.
