The music industry is witnessing the rise of a new generation, as Moses Martin, the 19-year-old son of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and actress Gwyneth Paltrow, steps into the spotlight with his own band. His alt-rock group, People I've Met, has just been signed by the prestigious Interscope Records and has released its first single.
Following Famous Footsteps
Moses is carving his own musical path, distinct from his father's globally famous pop melodies. His band, which includes members Andrew Suster and Orlando Wiltshire, offers a moodier, alternative rock sound. The trio, who initially performed under the name Dancer last year, have now found a home at Interscope, a label that also boasts stars like Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Elton John.
Announcing the release of their debut track, 'Promise', on Instagram, Moses wrote: "Promise by @peopleivemet is #out. So proud of this song. Endlessly grateful for the band and @noahconrad for helping to make this song so special. Hope you enjoy. Sincerely, Moses Martin." His vocals have drawn comparisons to his father's, a connection strengthened by his previous appearances on stage with Coldplay, including a notable performance at Glastonbury in 2016.
A Musical Household Expands
The Martin-Paltrow household is clearly a creative one. Moses is not the only child pursuing a career in the arts. His older sister, Apple Martin, 21, has also launched a music career, recently releasing a new music video for her single 'Satellites' in collaboration with indie rock duo Jade Street. Her initial foray into music last year faced some criticism, but she continues to develop her artistic voice.
Their mother, Gwyneth Paltrow, has previously spoken about Apple's potential, telling The Mirror last year: "She's doing a pre-law degree at college but I think she's going to follow in my footsteps... you have to let them find their own path." Apple has also ventured into modelling, recently becoming an ambassador for the fashion label Self-Portrait.
Proven Talent and New Beginnings
While the 'nepo baby' label often follows celebrity offspring, Moses brings tangible experience to his new project. He has already contributed to his father's work, providing vocals and writing credits on several Coldplay songs, including 'All My Love', 'Orphans', and 'The Astronaut'. With the backing of a major label and a distinct musical direction, People I've Met is poised to make its own mark on the alternative rock scene, separate from the colossal legacy of Coldplay.
The band's signing and first release mark a significant step for Moses Martin as he transitions from collaborating with one of the world's biggest bands to fronting his own successful musical venture.
