I Tried New Cherry Cola Squashies: Here's My Honest Verdict
New Cherry Cola Squashies Reviewed: Does It Live Up?

Social News Reporter Alice Sjoberg has shared her honest thoughts after trying the brand new 'nostalgic' flavour of Squashies to see if they live up to the original ones.

I try the brand new Cherry Cola flavour Squashies

While I would say I prefer savoury foods over sweet treats, I do have moments where all I want is to go crazy at the sweets aisle at the nearest supermarket and get everything that looks good. So when Swizzels unveiled a fresh variant of their beloved Squashies range, my curiosity was instantly piqued.

Despite Squashies only hitting shelves in 2012, they hold a special place in my heart as they were amongst the first sweets I tried when first moving to the UK for university back in 2018, and they remain my go-to choice whenever I fancy a sweet treat.

Swizzels is the UK’s largest family-owned independent sugar confectionery business and one of the few confectionery companies to still manufacture sweets in the UK. The company makes a range of well-known products, including Love Hearts, Refreshers, Drumstick Lollies, Rainbow Drops, Double Lollies, Fruity Pops, and Squashies.

Even though Squashies have only been around for around 14 years, they have had various different flavour variations available, including Original Raspberry & Milk, Sour Cherry & Apple, Bubblegum, Strawberry & Cream, Rhubarb & Custard, Tropical, Sour Shooting Stars and Love Hearts.

Their latest addition to their sweets collection is the Cherry Cola flavoured Squashies, now available to buy in all major supermarkets and shops around the country. Swizzels has described their new treat flavour as having the signature soft, foamy texture people know and love from Squashies, but also the classic flavour combination of fizzy cola and juicy cherry.

While it sounds delicious, are they as good as they sound? And will they live up to the hype of the classic Squashies? These were the questions I wanted answered as I opened up a bag of the new sweet treat.

Immediately, I was hit by the distinctive smell of sweet sugar, but mixed in with the smell of cherry cola, which gave it a good start. As I took one of the sweets out, I noticed that the classic pink and white colour combination had been changed to a pink and light brown to better match the flavour combination of the sweet. But while it looked good, one crucial question remained: does it live up to the original Squashies? The short answer is yes, absolutely.

While I'm always sceptical of artificial cherry flavours, this one tastes just like a cherry cola drink, as all you're missing is the fizziness of the soft drink. Overall, I found these sweets a lot more delicious than I had initially expected, and will for sure be getting them more in the future. However, I do believe the original flavour of Squashies will remain my favourite option.
