Major Luther Spoiler Unveiled as Alice Morgan Makes Shocking Return

A significant spoiler for the beloved crime drama Luther has been disclosed, confirming that one of the show's most iconic characters is set to return from the dead in an epic franchise comeback. Idris Elba is currently filming in London for a new feature-length Netflix film, reprising his iconic role as detective John Luther, with the project announced earlier this year.

Alice Morgan's Resurrection Confirmed

Fans of the series will be thrilled to learn that actress Ruth Wilson is returning after a seven-year absence, as her character Alice Morgan is brought back to life. Alice appeared to have been killed off in the fifth series, falling to her death after forcing Luther to drop her from a height. However, her body was never shown, and her death was never officially confirmed, leaving room for speculation.

Last year, it was revealed that Ruth Wilson, 44, would make a comeback, but there was uncertainty about whether Alice would only appear in flashbacks. Now, a fan-captured video from filming in London's Canary Wharf, as reported by The Sun, suggests Alice is alive in the present day. The footage shows Luther and Alice looking up at an office building together before rushing off, hinting at her active role in the storyline.

Creator Confirms Alice's Survival

Further evidence of Alice's survival came from Luther creator Neil Cross, who told Newsweek that the character is alive and well. He stated, 'As far as I’m concerned there isn’t a world where Ruth Wilson ever went away. Just because she’s not in this particular film doesn’t mean that she’s not there in the broader universe. Alice is a very real person to me and I wouldn’t want to live in a world without her.' Cross added that Alice sprang from his imagination fully formed, in a slightly folkloric way, emphasizing her enduring presence in the series.

Filming Details and Explosive Scenes

The new movie, a sequel to the 2023 film Luther: The Fallen Sun, features intense action sequences. Idris Elba was recently seen filming outside St Paul's Cathedral, fleeing from a car explosion amidst fake rain. Despite the challenging weather, Elba appeared in high spirits, dressed in his character's signature black trench coat and smart attire. The set included umbrellas and ponchos to protect the cast and crew, with Elba also interacting with his stunt double and co-stars during breaks.

Netflix has teased the plot, revealing: 'When a wave of brutal, seemingly random murders hits London, Luther is secretly called back into service. But how can he save London when everyone on all sides seems to want him dead?' Director Jamie Payne, who has worked on projects like Doctor Who, expressed excitement about reuniting with the cast, saying, 'It’s a true joy to be back on the streets of Lutherland with the supreme talents that are Idris Elba and Dermot Crowley, I am also thrilled to be reunited with the brilliant and dangerous Alice Morgan, played by the extraordinarily talented Ruth Wilson. Fans new and old are in for a treat!'

Returning Cast and Production Team

In addition to Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson, the film will see the return of Dermot Crowley as Martin Schenk. New cast members include Stephen Dillane, Anya Chalotra, Kyle Soller, Ian Hart, and Niamh Algar. Neil Cross has written the screenplay, with Jamie Payne directing. Payne praised Cross for creating a dark and engaging tale, while Cross reflected on the characters as family, highlighting their deep connection to the series.

Luther is available for streaming on Netflix and BBC iPlayer, with the upcoming film set to continue the thrilling narrative that has captivated audiences for years.
