A devoted fan of former Spice Girl Mel C, whose real name is Melanie Chisholm, was left astonished after uncovering a printing error on her latest album, Sweat. While the cover correctly displays her stage name, the spine of the vinyl edition purchased by an Australian fan bizarrely reads 'Melannine C' alongside the album title.
Fan shares discovery on TikTok
Brad Bellman, from Melbourne, took to TikTok on Monday to share the amusing blunder, joking that 'someone is going to get fired for this.' It remains unclear how many copies of Sweat carry the manufacturing mistake, but Bellman revealed in his video that a fellow Mel C enthusiast alerted him to the mix-up. He also confirmed that he received multiple units, all featuring the same erroneous printing.
'My delivery of Mel C Sweat stuff came today,' Bellman said in his clip. He continued: 'And a friend of mine asked me, 'Did you get the Melannine version?' and I'm like, 'What the f*** does that mean?' and he told me to check the spine.' A close-up of the error was included in his video.
Fan reactions and Mel C's response
The TikTok post quickly garnered comments, with one user remarking, 'Melannine... Hold on to it… it will be expensive in the future.' Another fan speculated, 'Wait a minute, I'm pretty sure Sweat is her ninth studio album, right, so maybe it's intentional?' However, a third commenter clarified that the misprint was indeed a mistake, which Mel C herself confirmed during a recent live stream. 'She's going to try to normalise it as some people are asking her to sign the records 'To Melanine',' the fan added.
Several others in the thread attested that their vinyl editions of Sweat also contained the misspelling.
About the album and Spice Girls reunion
Sweat, released on May 1, marks the 52-year-old singer's first solo project since her 2020 self-titled album Melanie C. Meanwhile, the Spice Girls are reportedly exploring the possibility of a hologram show to celebrate their 30th anniversary, following the cancellation of a planned reunion tour. Band members Mel B, Geri Horner, Mel C, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham had discussed a series of concerts to commemorate three decades since their debut single Wannabe, but failed to reach an agreement last month.
Instead, the group may follow the model of ABBA Voyage, which launched in 2022 and transformed the Swedish band into digital avatars. Victoria Beckham told SiriusXM radio this week: 'I think it would be a great idea. The principle of it would be great. We were talking about it at dinner, but we'll see.'
The Spice Girls rose to fame in 1996 when Wannabe topped charts in 37 countries. The girl group achieved nine UK number-one singles and two number-one albums. After Geri Halliwell left the band, she launched a successful solo career with four UK number-one singles.
