Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley has revealed he suffered a significant injury while overseas, appearing on national television with a visible plaster cast on his left arm.
Television Appearance Reveals Injury
The 69-year-old ITV star made his latest television appearance on Michael McIntyre's BBC One gameshow The Wheel on Saturday, November 29, where audiences quickly noticed the presenter's injured arm. During the broadcast, host Michael McIntyre directly addressed the visible plaster cast, prompting Madeley to explain the circumstances behind his injury.
"I had a little break in France," Richard disclosed to McIntyre during the programme, before providing more specific details about the severity of his condition. The veteran broadcaster confirmed he had sustained a double fracture in his wrist, emphatically stating "Bang, a double fracture" to underscore the seriousness of the injury.
High Spirits Despite Setback
Despite the painful injury, Madeley maintained excellent humour throughout the programme. The presenter even laughed along when McIntyre playfully teased him about his casual attire for the television appearance.
"Now, why have you chosen not to dress up for the television today? I think it's clear to everyone that you'd forgotten you had to be here until the car arrived," McIntyre quipped, with Richard taking the good-natured ribbing in stride.
Madeley appeared on the celebrity edition of the popular gameshow alongside several other well-known figures, including Rachel Riley, Ellie Simmonds, David Walliams, Adam Hills, Fatiha El-Ghorri, Vogue Williams and Spencer Matthews. Each celebrity served as a specialist in their respective fields, with Madeley taking on the role of weather expert for the episode.
Recent Health Challenges
This injury represents the second health-related setback for the presenter in recent weeks. Earlier in November, Richard had to step back from his GMB presenting duties due to an undisclosed illness, with ITV News editor Paul Brand temporarily filling his position.
It was subsequently revealed that Madeley had been battling COVID-19, though he confirmed to co-host Susanna Reid that he had recovered from the active stage of the virus. However, he noted that the illness had left him feeling "washed out" and operating at what he estimated to be "80%" of his normal capacity.
The presenter's appearance on The Wheel marks his return to television screens following these health challenges, demonstrating his commitment to continuing his broadcasting career despite recent physical setbacks.
