PIP Claimants to Receive Up to £371 Annual Increase from April 2026
PIP claimants set for £371 annual boost from April

Individuals receiving Personal Independence Payment (PIP) are poised for a significant financial uplift, with annual increases of up to approximately £371 set to take effect from the start of the new financial year. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that PIP payments will rise by 3.8% from April 6, 2026, offering enhanced support to those with disabilities or long-term health conditions who require assistance with daily living or mobility.

Understanding the PIP Increase

PIP is a vital benefit designed to provide financial aid to people facing extra costs due to disability or chronic illness. The upcoming increase reflects the government's annual adjustment based on inflation figures, ensuring that support keeps pace with living expenses. Currently, weekly PIP payments range from £29.20 to £187.45, which translates to four-weekly awards between £116.80 and £749.80.

New Rates from April 2026

The revised component rates will apply as follows:

  • Daily Living Component: Enhanced rate increases to £114.60 per week (up from £110.40), while the standard rate rises to £76.70 per week (up from £73.90).
  • Mobility Component: Enhanced rate climbs to £80.00 per week (up from £77.05), with the standard rate moving to £30.30 per week (up from £29.20).

Impact on Annual Awards

For claimants on the highest possible award, the annual total will jump from just over £9,747 to around £10,119, representing an increase of just over £371. Those receiving the lowest award, which consists solely of the standard mobility component, will see a more modest annual rise of £57.20. This adjustment aims to bolster financial stability for all PIP recipients during a period of economic uncertainty.

Potential Payment Combinations

From April 6, 2026, there are eight distinct award combinations based on the new rates:

  1. Standard daily living only: £76.70 per week, £306.80 per pay period.
  2. Enhanced daily living only: £114.60 per week, £458.40 per pay period.
  3. Standard mobility only: £30.30 per week, £121.20 per pay period.
  4. Enhanced mobility only: £80.00 per week, £320.00 per pay period.
  5. Standard daily living and standard mobility: £107 per week, £428 per pay period.
  6. Enhanced daily living and enhanced mobility: £194.60 per week, £778.40 per pay period.
  7. Standard daily living and enhanced mobility: £156.70 per week, £626.80 per pay period.
  8. Enhanced daily living and standard mobility: £144.90 per week, £579.60 per pay period.

The DWP emphasises that these changes will be applied automatically to existing claims, with no need for recipients to take any action. This boost is part of broader efforts to support vulnerable households and ensure that disability benefits remain adequate in the face of rising costs.
