The second series of Celebrity Traitors is set to begin filming this weekend, and the full line-up has been announced, featuring Scottish actress Sharon Rooney. Fans will not have to wait much longer to see the famous faces compete in the Highlands castle.
Who is Sharon Rooney?
The 37-year-old actress is best known for her critically acclaimed breakout role as Rae Earl in My Mad Fat Diary, which aired between 2013 and 2015. The series followed a teenager dealing with mental health and body image issues. Rooney has also appeared in Dumbo (2019) as Miss Atlantis, and on television in The Revenge Club, The Control Room, Nightsleeper, and Finding Alice. She earned praise for her comedic role as prisoner Catherine in Daddy Issues opposite Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey.
In 2023, Rooney played Lawyer Barbie in the blockbuster film Barbie. Although the role was brief, she described it as a dream come true. "Honestly it sounds like such a cliché but it really was a dream," she told Tatler. "I was a Barbie kid. Growing up I had the bedcover, the lampshade, the wallpaper. I used to get the Argos catalogue every Christmas and circle around the dolls I wanted. So the first day we went on set it was unreal - I played with one of those doll houses when I was a little girl and now I am in one. Every detail was perfect."
Fans React to Her Participation
Rooney shared the announcement video on social media without comment, but fans quickly praised her inclusion. One user wrote: "Sharon Rooney on Celebrity Traitors?! How am I supposed to be normal about this?!?!" Another added: "omg sharon rooney. perhaps a ‘my mad fat diary’ rewatch in her honor is needed again in my life." A third fan said: "SHARON!! ROONEY!! I’m so bloody excited." While a fourth commented: "Sharon Rooney jumps out as a potential surprise star to me."
