Wrexham's remarkable journey under Hollywood ownership is heading for another dramatic finale, with a place in the Premier League at stake. The club, co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, goes into the final round of Championship matches in sixth place, the last playoff spot, aiming to keep alive their dream of reaching the top flight.
High Stakes on the Final Day
All 12 Championship matches kick off simultaneously on Saturday. Wrexham faces a tough home game against fourth-placed Middlesbrough, who need a win to keep hopes of finishing second. Meanwhile, rivals Hull City (seventh) host Norwich City, and Derby County (eighth) welcome Sheffield United. Hull are level on points with Wrexham but behind on goal difference, while Derby are one point adrift.
Historic Promotion Chase
Wrexham are already assured of their highest league finish in 162 years, surpassing their previous best of 15th in the second tier in 1978-79. But a fourth straight promotion would be unprecedented in English football. The club has risen from the National League to the brink of the Premier League since Reynolds and McElhenney took over in 2021.
Midfielder Ollie Rathbone said: "At the start of the season, everyone would have taken this scenario."
Premier League Drama
The final day also has huge implications in the Premier League. Arsenal lead Manchester City by three points, but City have a game in hand. Arsenal host Fulham on Saturday, while City visit Everton on Monday. At the bottom, Tottenham are in the relegation zone, two points behind West Ham and five behind Nottingham Forest. Tottenham face Aston Villa on Sunday.
Manchester United host Liverpool on Sunday in a battle for Champions League places, with both teams in third and fourth respectively.
Injury Concerns
Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah, who is leaving the club at the end of the season, is sidelined with a hamstring injury. Manchester City midfielder Rodri is also a doubt with a muscle problem after missing the last two games.
