A harrowing 911 call made by the wife of disgraced former Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore has been released, exposing the personal turmoil that erupted on the day he was fired and subsequently arrested.
A Day of Crisis: Firing, Arrest, and a Desperate Plea
On December 10th, the life of 39-year-old married father-of-three Sherrone Moore unravelled within a matter of hours. First, he was dismissed from his prestigious role as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines following an investigation into an alleged 'inappropriate relationship' with a staff member. Later that same day, he was arrested and charged with serious offences including breaking and entering, home invasion, and stalking.
Now, one month after those shocking events, audio obtained by TMZ reveals the desperate emergency call placed by Moore's wife, Kelli. In the call, a clearly terrified Kelli Moore tells the 911 dispatcher, 'I'm worried my husband is going to hurt himself.' When asked why she held that fear, she responded, 'Because he said that to me. He said he is trying to kill himself.'
Kelli explained to the operator that her husband had just called to say he had been fired and was 'in crisis.' She revealed she did not know his location, only that he said he was on a highway. 'I just need to make sure he's safe. He's called a couple times, and I'm terrified he's gonna do something to himself,' she pleaded, identifying him as the Michigan Wolverines coach.
The Alleged Criminal Incident and Ongoing Fallout
The criminal charges stem from an incident where Moore is accused of breaking into the Ann Arbor apartment of his executive assistant, Paige Shiver, armed with a knife. He allegedly confronted a woman there, engaged in a heated argument, and threatened to harm himself. After allegedly fleeing, he was later arrested at a church parking lot in a neighbouring town.
Moore spent two nights in jail before being released on a $25,000 bond. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and could face up to six years in prison if convicted. As conditions of his release, he is required to wear a GPS tether and undergo mental health treatment. A police report also prohibits any contact with the unnamed staffer, who remains employed by the University of Michigan.
Documents reveal the staffer claimed a two-year 'intimate relationship' with Moore, which she ended just two days before his arrest. She subsequently filed a formal report with the university. It is alleged Moore then bombarded her with dozens of messages.
Further Allegations and Legal Defence
The scandal deepened late last month when five additional women came forward with accounts of awkward exchanges with Moore in the days before his firing. While not accusing him of illegal acts, they described erratic behaviour. Reports also suggest Moore would sometimes sob in staff meetings or lash out at coaches prior to his dismissal.
Moore's lawyer, Ellen Michaels, stated to The Athletic: 'Sherrone Moore denies any criminal wrongdoing. There is no history of domestic violence... This matter will be decided in court based on evidence and due process, not speculation.' Moore has not spoken publicly since his arrest but was photographed with his wife, Kelli, who is believed to be standing by him, after his release on bail.
