Trump's Grand Vision for Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Renovation
Former President Donald Trump has launched into a social media frenzy, boasting about his ambitious new renovation project at the iconic Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool in Washington D.C. In a series of Truth Social posts on Thursday evening, Trump declared that the project would be completed in a fraction of the time and cost originally estimated, while delivering superior results.
"Much More Beautiful Than the Day It Was Built"
"We were told it was going to take YEARS to do this job, and it will take a fraction of that time, at a fraction of the cost — and it will be much more beautiful than the day it was built!" Trump wrote enthusiastically on his platform. The reflecting pool, which stands as one of Washington D.C.'s most recognizable landmarks, was completed following the Lincoln Memorial's dedication in 1922 and underwent previous renovations that lasted two years before reopening in 2012.
Trump originally announced his plans to "fix" the reflecting pool alongside Interior Secretary Doug Burgum back in November. In one particularly pointed post, he shared a black-and-white video of the pool edited to emphasize green water, accompanied by the caption: "You won't be seeing this Biden filth and incompetence much longer!"
Part of Broader Beautification Campaign
This latest project forms part of Trump's broader passion for beautifying the White House and surrounding Washington D.C. area. His ambitious agenda includes:
- Demolishing the East Wing of the White House to construct an estimated $400 million ballroom
- Paving over the Rose Garden to create a new patio area
- Redesigning the Palm Room and bathroom attached to the Lincoln Bedroom
- Building a massive "Independence Arch" near Arlington National Cemetery and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts
The performing arts center, which now bears Trump's name symbolically, is scheduled to close for two years of extensive renovations.
Multi-Faceted Social Media Outburst
Trump's Thursday evening social media activity extended far beyond architectural projects. During the same period, he:
- Threatened Tehran during the two-week ceasefire in his ongoing conflict with Iran
- Criticized The Wall Street Journal's editorial board for suggesting he declared "premature victory" in Iran
- Accused Iran of dishonorable conduct regarding oil passage through the Strait of Hormuz
- Blasted prominent MAGA media figures including Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens and Alex Jones for criticizing his Iran war strategy
- Attacked former President Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats over immigration policies following a violent incident in Florida
Regarding the Iran situation, Trump wrote: "Actually, it is a Victory, and there's nothing 'premature' about it! Because of me, IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON and, very quickly, you'll see Oil start flowing, with or without the help of Iran." He emphasized that the U.S.-Iran ceasefire announced Tuesday was contingent on Iran agreeing to the "COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz," a critical waterway that typically carries approximately one-fifth of the world's oil supply.
Immigration Criticism Amid Violent Incident
Trump's social media outburst also targeted immigration policies following reports that Haitian immigrant Rolbert Joachin allegedly beat a woman to death with a hammer at a Florida convenience store. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Joachin confessed to the murder, and the Homeland Security Department identified him as an "illegal alien."
"This animal was allowed to stay here because the Biden Administration granted him, and all Haitians, 'Temporary Protective Status,' a massively abused and fraudulent program which my Administration is working to terminate," Trump wrote, adding criticism of "Deranged Liberal District Court Judges" who he claims are obstructing his administration's efforts.
The reflecting pool renovation announcement represents just one facet of Trump's extensive Thursday evening social media activity, which blended architectural ambition with geopolitical commentary and domestic policy criticism in characteristic fashion.
