Carrick Scraps Amorim's Holiday Ban, Giving Man Utd Players Immediate Boost
Carrick Scraps Amorim's Holiday Ban for Man Utd Players

Manchester United players are set for an immediate boost after interim manager Michael Carrick scrapped a strict rule implemented by his predecessor, Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese manager had banned players not selected for international duty from taking holidays during breaks, but Carrick has reversed this policy, granting the squad additional time off.

Amorim's Controversial Rule

In the early weeks of Ruben Amorim's tenure at Manchester United, he faced a depleted squad during an international break. Key players like Marcus Rashford and Casemiro, who were not called up by their respective nations, traveled to the United States for a short break. This did not sit well with Amorim, who subsequently imposed a ban on overseas trips for non-internationals.

Amorim stated, "Would I set a different structure? Yes, for sure. But we cannot put this on the players. They [United] told them they have five days off so they can fly anywhere because nobody in the club says you cannot fly. So we cannot, this time, put that on Rash or Case." Despite this, he made it clear that such holidays would no longer be permitted under his management.

Carrick's New Approach

After Amorim was dismissed following 14 months in charge, Michael Carrick stepped up as interim manager. With the March international break now underway, many United players have jetted off to represent their countries in World Cup qualifiers or friendlies. Carrick has been working with the remaining non-internationals at Carrington, but he has lifted the holiday ban.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, United players will be handed extra time off due to the fixture schedule. Typically, international stars would return to training by the end of the next week, but with the FA Cup quarter-finals scheduled and United absent from the draw, Carrick has allowed the squad a well-earned break.

Immediate Benefits for the Squad

This change provides an immediate boost for the players. Their last match was on Friday, March 20, and their next fixture is not until April 13, resulting in four free weekends. Non-internationals were required to train until Thursday, March 26, before being granted the weekend off.

The period of rest could prove particularly beneficial for injured players working towards a return to fitness ahead of the season's run-in. Defenders like Matthijs De Ligt have been building towards a comeback, while Patrick Dorgu is also targeting a return before the campaign concludes.

Carrick's decision marks a significant shift in management style, focusing on player welfare and morale. By scrapping Amorim's restrictive rule, he aims to foster a more positive environment within the squad as they prepare for the final stretch of the Premier League season.
