Rangers Striker Ryan Naderi Suffers Serious Injury Blow
Rangers have been dealt a significant setback with striker Ryan Naderi picking up a serious muscle injury that threatens to rule him out of the club's Premiership title run-in. The 22-year-old German forward, who joined from Hansa Rostock in the winter transfer window, will be sidelined for at least two weeks before undergoing further scans to determine the full extent of the problem.
Manager Rohl Provides Concerning Update
Speaking ahead of Rangers' trip to face Falkirk on Sunday, manager Danny Rohl delivered a worrying assessment of Naderi's condition. 'Not well,' Rohl stated when asked about the player's status. 'We assessed him, it's a serious one. We don't know when he's back.'
The injury occurred during last Saturday's 4-2 victory over Dundee United at Ibrox, where Naderi had scored his first league goal for the club before being substituted at halftime. Rohl explained the uncertain timeline for recovery: 'I think, in general, it is the kind of injury, a muscle injury, you have to look week by week. We have to re-scan him in two weeks and then we will know more about how long.'
Impact on Rangers' Title Challenge
The timing of this injury could hardly be worse for Rangers, who enter the final stretch of the season just one point behind leaders Hearts with six games remaining. Third-placed Celtic trail by an additional two points, setting up a tense conclusion to the campaign.
Naderi's absence represents a particular blow given his recent contributions. While he has found goalscoring challenging since his January arrival—with his only other strikes coming in an 8-0 Scottish Cup win over Queen's Park—Rohl has consistently praised his work ethic and defensive contributions.
'I think Ryan has made a great impact since he arrived, not just the goals,' Rohl emphasized. 'He worked hard for this first goal but also a lot of work off the ball, against the ball, a lot of runs for the team.'
Additional Injury Concerns for Rangers
Naderi is not the only fitness concern troubling Rohl ahead of the crucial match against Falkirk. The Rangers manager must also contend with:
- Full-back Tuur Rommens remains unavailable, though his condition is improving with successful recent treatment
- Question marks persist over the availability of Andreas Skov Olsen and winger Mikey Moore
- Rommens, who signed from Westerlo in January, could return for the first or second game after the league split
Rohl faces tactical decisions in attack, with Bojan Miovski pushing for a starting role after coming off the bench to score against Dundee United. The manager must decide whether to continue with two strikers or adjust his formation to accommodate Thelo Aasgaard.
Falkirk Challenge Looms Large
Sunday's match presents a significant test for Rangers as they face a Falkirk side enjoying a memorable first season back in the Premiership. John McGlynn's team has already secured a top-six finish and looks forward to a Scottish Cup semi-final against Dunfermline.
Both previous meetings between the sides this season have ended in draws, with the first encounter at Falkirk Stadium contributing to the dismissal of Rohl's predecessor, Russell Martin. With Rangers scheduled to face Falkirk again on the final day of the season, Rohl acknowledges the challenge ahead.
'First, big respect for Falkirk because they are playing a good season,' Rohl said. 'Good development, the manager has done a good job with them and not just the promotions. Even now to make it into the first six in the table, this is a great achievement so far.'
The Rangers manager recognizes that Falkirk's position allows them to play with freedom: 'They can just win and for some teams it is nice because in some moments you can also gamble, you can gamble more offensively with nothing to lose.'
With the league splitting after this weekend's matches, Rohl emphasized the importance of securing victory: 'We want to win the final game before the split to have great opportunities then in the split.'
As Rangers navigate these injury setbacks, the depth of their squad will be tested during the most critical phase of their season, with every point potentially decisive in the title race.
