Fran's Chocolates Recalls 112 Units Over Undeclared Hazelnut Allergy Risk
Gourmet Chocolate Recalled Over Undeclared Hazelnuts

A premium chocolate brand has issued an urgent product recall after a customer suffered an allergic reaction to an ingredient not listed on the label.

Recall Details and Product Information

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Fran's Chocolates, Ltd. is recalling 112 units of its Pure Bar Almondmilk Chocolate 46% Madagascar Plant-Based bars. The recall was initiated on 20 December 2025 after testing revealed the presence of hazelnuts, which were not declared on the product packaging.

The affected chocolate bars, sold in 1.1-ounce packages, were available at four stores in the Seattle area and online between 9 October and 15 December 2025. Health officials stated the contamination occurred because the product was processed on equipment also used for other items containing nuts.

Serious Health Warning for Consumers

The FDA's recall notice carries a stark warning for those with nut allergies. "People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to hazelnut run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product," it states. The agency confirmed that one consumer has already reported an allergic reaction linked to the chocolate.

While the label correctly listed traces of milk, peanuts, and sesame, the undeclared hazelnut poses a significant danger. Tree nut allergies, including to hazelnuts, affect approximately 3.5 million people in the United States.

What Consumers Should Do

Customers who have purchased the recalled chocolate are urged not to consume it. They should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund or contact Fran's Chocolates directly for further instructions. The company had not provided an immediate public comment at the time of the FDA's announcement.

This recall is part of a wider trend of allergy-related food withdrawals during the festive season. Notably, Aldi recently recalled its Choceur Holiday Bark due to a packaging mix-up that led to undeclared pecans and wheat in certain flavours. The supermarket also pulled its Perfect Christmas Mozzarella Sticks in Blankets over an undeclared egg ingredient.
