The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall of a popular dairy-free ice cream over contamination fears. The product may contain foreign materials, including small stones, posing a potential injury risk to consumers.
Details of the Recall
Danone U.S. is recalling specific pints of its So Delicious Dairy Free Salted Caramel Cluster Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert. The issue stems from the potential presence of "small stones and other hard objects" within the cashew pieces used in the ice cream. The FDA published the company's statement detailing the action.
The affected products were sold in retail stores across the United States. They are identifiable by the SKU number 136603 and the UPC barcode 744473476138. All recalled pints have an expiration date that falls before 8 August 2027.
Consumer Advice and Company Response
While no illnesses or injuries have been reported to date, the company is urging caution. Consumers who have purchased the implicated ice cream should either dispose of it immediately or contact So Delicious Dairy Free directly to arrange a refund.
In its statement, Danone U.S. confirmed it has identified and corrected the production issue. The firm stated it is "working swiftly with retail partners to remove the potentially impacted product from shelves" and plans to return the frozen dessert to market soon.
Recent Food Safety Recalls in the US
This incident follows several other food recalls in the United States in recent weeks, highlighting ongoing supply chain and manufacturing vigilance.
In November 2025, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams voluntarily recalled a batch of its Passion Fruit Dreamsicle Ice Cream Bars. The FDA reported that a crunch topping containing undeclared wheat and soy was inadvertently mixed into the batch during manufacturing, creating a risk of serious allergic reactions.
Also last month, Ventura Foods recalled over 3,556 cases of various salad dressings. The recall, later upgraded to a Class II classification, was due to potential contamination with black plastic planting material found in granulated onion. The dressings had been distributed to major retailers across 42 states.
