A mother from North Wales has issued an urgent public warning after a face cleanser purchased from Primark left her teenage daughter with severe facial swelling and barely able to see.
Christmas Shopping Trip Takes a Terrifying Turn
Violet Barron-Clarke, aged 14 from Holyhead on Anglesey, had been on a birthday shopping trip with her mother, Aiyeesha, to the Trafford Centre in Manchester last weekend. Among their purchases was a bottle of Primark's own-brand PS Micellar Cleansing Water.
The teenager used the product for the first time on Sunday evening. By the following morning, her face had swollen dramatically. Her mother, Aiyeesha, described waking her daughter to find her "unrecognisable" and unable to open her eyes properly due to the extreme reaction.
Emergency Response and Ongoing Investigation
The family immediately called 999, and an ambulance crew attended their home. Paramedics administered medication to help reduce the swelling. Violet was subsequently prescribed strong antihistamines by a doctor.
The swelling and impaired vision persisted into Monday afternoon and Tuesday. Aiyeesha told NorthWales Live she wanted to share their experience to prevent it from happening to anyone else. "From something that claims to be gentle and suitable for all skin types, my daughter has never had a reaction like this prior," she said.
Primark's Statement on the Incident
In response to the family's complaint, a Primark spokesperson stated: "We take the safety and quality of our products very seriously... all of our cosmetic products are assessed by qualified safety experts before going on sale."
The retailer confirmed it is "fully investigating" the incident and has been in touch with the family, while reiterating that all its products meet strict safety standards.
