GTA 6 Could Cost $100 as Take-Two CEO Dodges Pricing Questions
GTA 6 May Cost $100 as CEO Avoids Pricing Commitments

The gaming world is buzzing with speculation that Grand Theft Auto 6 could be priced as high as $100, and the CEO of its publisher, Take-Two Interactive, is doing little to ease those concerns. Speaking at the iicon games industry conference, Strauss Zelnick deftly sidestepped questions about the game's cost, offering only general remarks about the company's pricing philosophy.

Zelnick's Vague Response

According to IGN, Zelnick stated: "Consumers pay for the value that you bring to them, and our job is to charge way way way less of the value delivery." He added, "How you feel about something you buy is the intersection of the thing itself and what you pay for. Consumers need to feel like the thing itself is amazing and the price they were charged was fair for what they got." While this avoids a specific number, it implies that the standard $70 price tag may no longer apply.

Industry Trends and Inflation

Nintendo recently raised the bar by selling Mario Kart World for $79.99 at launch, with digital editions priced lower. Donkey Kong Bananza followed a similar pattern, offering an £8 discount for digital copies. GTA 6 could adopt a comparable strategy, though Take-Two has not confirmed any details.

Zelnick argued that games have become cheaper when adjusted for inflation, noting that $60/$70 has been the norm for nearly a decade. However, this does not hold for the Grand Theft Auto series. The author recalls pre-ordering GTA V for Xbox 360 in 2013 at £34.99, which adjusted for inflation is about £49.99 today. If GTA 6 is priced higher, as expected, the increase will be substantial.

Release Date and Hype

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Fans anticipate a new trailer soon, as Zelnick previously promised a marketing ramp-up around summer. With the hype reaching fever pitch, the question remains: how much are players willing to pay?
