A devastating bus crash in Mexico on Christmas Eve has left eight people dead and a further 19 injured, authorities have confirmed.

The horrific accident occurred at approximately 5pm local time on 24 December. The vehicle was travelling in the municipality of Zontecomatlan, located in the eastern Mexican state of Veracruz, when it left the road.
The bus plummeted more than 600 feet down a steep embankment in an area known for its winding bends. Emergency services rushed to the remote scene, where they discovered the vehicle lying overturned on its roof.
