The horrific crime occurred in broad daylight on the morning of May 2, 2026, in Esplugues de Llobregat, a municipality near Barcelona’s Nou Camp stadium and home to former footballers Gerard Pique and Dani Alves. The victim, described locally as a young woman and in one unconfirmed report as possibly of Asian origin, was stabbed in the throat, chest, and stomach. A 50-year-old man who intervened suffered wounds to his arm but is not in serious condition.
The suspected killer, wearing jeans and a hoodie and carrying a large black rucksack, was arrested around midday in Barcelona’s Les Corts neighbourhood. Police are still investigating whether the attacker knew the victim, whose age and nationality have not been released.
