Bronx Man Arrested After Allegedly Stabbing Girlfriend to Death and Attacking Teen Son

A New York man has been arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death and attacking her teenage son in their Bronx apartment, according to police authorities. The brutal domestic violence incident occurred on Saturday, leaving 42-year-old Yesenia Hall dead and her 16-year-old son with severe injuries.

Details of the Arrest and Charges

Juan Rivas, aged 45, was taken into custody by police at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, several hours after the violent attack was reported. He has been formally charged with murder, manslaughter, possession of a weapon, and attempted murder in connection with the stabbing. Police stated that the incident stemmed from domestic issues within the household.

According to law enforcement officials, Rivas allegedly used a knife to repeatedly stab Yesenia Hall in the neck and torso during the assault. He then allegedly turned the weapon on Hall's teenage son, stabbing the 16-year-old boy in the back and neck. Following the attack, Rivas reportedly changed his clothes before fleeing the apartment scene.

Neighbor's Harrowing Account of the Attack

Shantrice Diamond, a neighbor who lives in the same building, provided a chilling eyewitness account of the events to The New York Post. Diamond reported being awakened by a loud thud followed by what she described as "horrific" screams coming from the apartment.

"I heard the boyfriend yelling, 'I'm gonna stab you,'" Diamond recounted. "I heard the woman's voice. She was screaming in pain. She was screaming, 'Stop! Stop!' After that she said, 'I am gonna die, I'm gonna die' and like two minutes later I heard nothing but silence."

Diamond and her mother waited until they heard Rivas close the front door and leave before venturing out to investigate the scene. "If I'd have walked out and he was fleeing the scene, I'm a witness so he would have stabbed me too," she explained to the Post.

Graphic Scene Discovered by Neighbors

When Diamond and her mother emerged from their apartment, they encountered a scene of extreme violence. "There was blood everywhere when officers arrived," Diamond stated. "It was blood on the walls, blood on the floor like towards the bedroom. It was blood everywhere."

The neighbor also witnessed the teenage victim being removed from the apartment by emergency responders. "I saw the little boy... He was still conscious but he looked loopy like he was about to pass out. They took him out in a chair all bloodied," Diamond described. "There was blood dripping from his mouth, his neck was bloody down to his clothes to his feet. The face was very, very bloody."

Victim Conditions and Investigation Details

The 16-year-old son was transported to a local hospital following the attack and is currently reported to be in stable condition by the NYPD. Yesenia Hall, however, did not survive the brutal assault and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Diamond revealed that this was not the first instance of aggressive behavior she had witnessed from Rivas, indicating a pattern of domestic issues within the household. Police have confirmed that the incident is being investigated as a domestic violence case.

Juan Rivas is currently awaiting arraignment at the Bronx Criminal Court as legal proceedings begin. The Independent has reached out to the NYPD for additional information regarding the ongoing investigation into this tragic domestic violence incident that has shocked the Bronx community.
