Laguna Beach Reunion Trailer Drops with Cavallari and Conrad Confrontation
The highly anticipated reunion of the iconic reality series Laguna Beach has released its first trailer, featuring a long-awaited conversation between former rivals Kristin Cavallari and Lauren Conrad. The trailer, which debuted on Tuesday, sets the stage for The Reunion: Laguna Beach, scheduled to premiere on the Roku Channel on April 10.
Decades-Old Drama Revisited
In the emotional nearly two-minute teaser, Cavallari, 39, and Conrad, 40, are seen sitting side-by-side at a beach bonfire, a setting reminiscent of the original show that aired from 2004 to 2006. Cavallari opens the dialogue by stating, "We have never had a conversation on camera, just the two of us. Are you ready?" Conrad's blunt response, "No," hints at the unresolved tensions that defined their teenage years on television.
The trailer delves into the infamous love triangle involving castmate Stephen Colletti, which fueled much of the drama on the series. Cavallari recalls a telling moment from their past, saying, "They said, 'Who do you think is gonna be prom queen?' And I said, 'I don't know and I don't care, as long as it's not Lauren Conrad.'" Conrad adds simply, "We did not like each other."
Healing and Friendship After the Feud
Despite the historical animosity, both stars have indicated that filming the reunion has been a healing experience. Last October, Cavallari revealed on her podcast Let's Be Honest With Kristin Cavallari that she and Conrad are now friends again. "Lauren and I are friends," she stated, describing the reunion as "awesome" and "really healing in a lot of ways." She also shared an Instagram photo with Conrad, captioning it, "Everyone can put away their team Lauren and team Kristin shirts now."
In a 2022 appearance on the Back To The Beach podcast, the pair reflected on how the show amplified their conflict. Cavallari noted, "Obviously there was a little truth to what happened with the three of us, but I felt like MTV coming kept it alive and made it way worse than it ever would have been." Conrad agreed, adding that producers "really hammered the love triangle home" and didn't want her to have any other storylines.
Reflections on Teenage Behavior and Authenticity
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Conrad admitted to feeling "embarrassment" over her behavior as an 18-year-old on the show. "I think, for a while, I had a lot of embarrassment about some of my behavior as an 18-year-old, things I would say or do," she said. However, she also acknowledged that the cast's lack of self-awareness contributed to the show's authenticity and success. "We hadn't really seen a show like this before, so we didn't know what was getting used or not used. I think that's what actually made it feel more authentic," Conrad explained.
The trailer captures the emotional weight of the reunion, with Cavallari expressing, "For all of us, it was hard to revisit for different reasons. It just feels like the right time now." Cast members are shown shedding tears as they reflect on past events, with Colletti calling it "a serious full circle moment." The teaser concludes with the cast gathered around the bonfire, pondering whether they ever imagined reuniting two decades later.
Reunion Special Details and Cast
The two-hour reunion special, announced last September, will feature a host of original cast members. In addition to Cavallari, Conrad, and Colletti, the lineup includes Lo Bosworth, Talan Torriero, Trey Phillips, Christina Shuller, Dieter Schmitz, Jessica Smith, and Alex Hooser. Brian Tannenbaum, Head of Roku Originals, Roku Media, emphasized the cultural impact of the series in a statement, saying, "Laguna Beach wasn't just a television series; it defined a generation of pop culture and paved the way for the reality genre as we know it." He added that reuniting the cast after twenty years is "a dream" and will offer viewers a nostalgic front-row seat to the event.
As the premiere date approaches, fans of the original series are eagerly awaiting this deep dive into the lives and relationships of the cast that captivated audiences in the mid-2000s.
