Reuben Owen, the popular star of Channel 5's Our Yorkshire Farm, has offered fans a rare glimpse into his personal life and romance with girlfriend Jess during a television appearance. The young farmer appeared on ITV's Lorraine on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, alongside his partner, where they discussed their festive plans and the realities of farm work over the Christmas period.
A Festive Farm Romance
Speaking to presenter Lorraine Kelly, Reuben confirmed that he and Jess will be spending Christmas together this year at her home. "We were together last Christmas, but this Christmas, I will be spending my Christmas with Jess at hers," he revealed. The couple plan to visit his parents later on Christmas Day, but will primarily celebrate together.
Their partnership extends beyond romance into their daily work. The pair have recently been busy rearing turkeys on their farm, a task that presented its own challenges. "[Jess] was the main lady that raised the turkeys. Between me and her, we managed to keep them fenced in. They were escape artists. We had some trouble with them. It was hard work," Reuben explained during the interview.
No Day Off for Dairy Duties
For those in agriculture, the festive season doesn't mean a break from chores. Reuben emphasised that the farming duties continue uninterrupted, even on Christmas morning. "Especially being at Jess's, we'll have to milk on Christmas morning. It doesn't really stop for you, does it? Whatever the day, we'll still have to milk," he stated.
Jess echoed this sentiment, outlining their busy schedule: "We'll have dinner and go to yours, and then milk again, won't we?" This insight highlights the 24/7 commitment required in their line of work, where animal welfare always comes first.
Inspiring a New Generation
Beyond his personal life, Reuben used the platform to discuss his broader ambitions. He hopes his new festive programme, Reuben Owen: Christmas in the Dales, will inspire younger viewers to consider careers in farming or other rural industries.
"It's a good programme with lots of varied, different things in it. If it inspires younger people to come up into the countryside and pick more of an agriculture or a construction-based job, it's good," he said. He pointed out a pressing issue in areas like Cumbria, where the workforce is ageing. "To bring young people into these, sort of, physical jobs like farming and construction, it would be great."
What to Expect in the Christmas Special
The Channel 5 special, which airs tonight at 8pm, sees Reuben organising a Christmas celebration at Jess's farm to thank his family and friends for their support throughout the year. However, the path to party preparations is not smooth.
Before the festivities can begin, Reuben and his colleagues Sonny and Capper, along with Jess's father David, must undertake a significant barn renovation. The programme also features the couple's adventures with their flock of turkey chicks, including a frantic moment when their prospective Christmas dinner makes a daring escape.
Our Yorkshire Farm remains available to stream on Channel 5, offering further insight into the Owen family's life. Reuben's solo special continues his mission to showcase the rewards and rigours of contemporary farming, all while celebrating the community spirit of the Yorkshire Dales at Christmas.
