Teenager Dies in Farm Vehicle Accident in County Durham

The father of a 14-year-old boy who died after a horrific incident on a farm has described the family's anguish as living through their "worst nightmare".

A Tragic Incident on Boxing Day

Aaron Anderson, from Consett in County Durham, passed away in hospital on Boxing Day. His death came four days after he sustained life-threatening injuries when a John Deere Gator farm vehicle overturned. The accident occurred at a farm off the B6310 near Burnopfield on December 21.

His devastated father, Craig Anderson, spoke to Chronicle Live about the profound loss. "It's been horrendous. It's your worst nightmare. No family should have to go through it," he said. Craig, a workshop manager, had been attending a funeral in Blackpool when the tragedy unfolded.

A Life Full of Promise Cut Short

Aaron had been visiting the farm to play with a friend and help build a treehouse. His mother, Donna, discovered the accident had happened when she arrived to collect him and found police on the scene.

The family released a moving tribute, remembering Aaron as a "much-loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend" who would be deeply missed. They highlighted his passion and bright future, stating: "Aaron was always happiest working on farms and fixing trucks. Even at the age of 14 he had an amazing work ethic and already had two apprenticeship offers."

He lived with his parents, Craig and Donna, and was a loving younger brother to 26-year-old Lewis. Following the accident, he was rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle, where he later died.

A Family's Grief and Cherished Memories

In their statement, the family reflected on the future that had been stolen, but also expressed gratitude for the time they had. "Although we are saddened about the life he will never have, we are so thankful for the life he has lived and will cherish all the happy memories he left us with," they said.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community in County Durham, highlighting the potential dangers present in agricultural settings. The family's heartbreaking loss underscores the critical importance of farm safety, particularly for young people.
