King Charles Hails 'Fantastic' Sustainability Innovations at Hampton Court Event
King Charles Praises Sustainability Innovations at Hampton Court

King Charles III has personally inspected groundbreaking sustainable technologies at a major environmental exhibition, describing several projects as "fantastic" and "magnificent" during his engagement.

Royal Endorsement for Sustainable Transition

The monarch attended the concluding session of the second annual Sustainable Markets Initiative Exhibition and Reception, held within a marquee at the historic Hampton Court Palace in Surrey. The Sustainable Markets Initiative, which Charles himself founded five years ago, has the explicit mission of leading and accelerating the global shift toward a sustainable future.

Jen Jordan-Saifi, head of the SMI, greeted the King and expressed the organisation's delight at his presence. "We were absolutely delighted that His Majesty joined us today to see first hand the remarkable support behind the Sustainable Markets Initiative and the exhibition showcasing the work of our member companies," she stated.

Cutting-Edge Innovations on Display

During his walkthrough, King Charles engaged directly with innovators, examining their designs with evident interest. Among the standout exhibits was a detailed model of the Elsa-M, a space debris removal satellite designed and built by Astroscale UK. Nick Shave, the company's UK managing director, noted that the King recalled visiting their Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire four years prior.

"He remembered visiting us four years ago so I told him how much we developed on," Mr. Shave explained to the Press Association. "He was pleased to see we're making progress – he seemed very interested."

The exhibition also featured a replica of the Blue Origin space shuttle, alongside sustainable textiles, carbon capture models, and advanced energy-efficient building materials. Furthermore, models of innovative shipping vessels were displayed, including one of the Fortescue Green Pioneer, recognised as the world's first ammonia-fuelled shipping vessel.

Global Leadership Gathering

The two-day summit hosted by the SMI brought together global industry leaders, finance executives, and government representatives for focused roundtables and exhibitions. The collective aim was to outline the tangible benefits of transitioning to sustainable economic models.

On Thursday, King Charles participated in a feedback discussion with chief executives, listening to their reflections on the event's various themes. He also met key guests at a reception marking the summit's conclusion.

Ms. Jordan-Saifi emphasised the foundational vision behind the initiative: "His Majesty founded the SMI with a clear vision – that the private sector must play a decisive role in delivering the sustainable transition. What we are seeing at this summit is that vision in action, with CEOs from around the world coming together to deliver practical solutions and real progress."

The King's active engagement and positive feedback at the Hampton Court event underscore the continuing royal commitment to environmental innovation and the critical role of public-private partnerships in addressing global sustainability challenges.
